Okay. So we just had our opening day for my district recently and they brought up the topic of teaching kids how to appropriately use AI for class work and homework….as well as teachers. I was mind blown 🤯
My very first thought was inappropriately photoshopping an imaging using AI and sending it around school (bullying). We have SO much bullying as is…the thought of showing them how to use AI scares me more. Yes I understand they want to show them how to use it APPROPRIATELY but the ages I work with…I really don’t think they will. Our kids are at the age were they are HITTING puberty in our building (I’d say 10-12)….we get ALL the hormones, uncertainty, drama, bullying, etc.
We had a WHOLE year of “Ship or Dip” 😑 drama with parents screaming, students threatening others, etc. It. Was. A. Mess.
Am I wrong for the concern?!
Do you think they should be teaching AI use at this age?
I really really don’t….I just foresee sooooo much more bullying….

I think they’re too young and using AI and potentially relying on it will hurt their critical thinking abilities growing up. And yes I’m sure bullying will happen too kids will always find a way to bully it seems :/ I’m not a big fan of AI

Whelp I guess it’s time to homeschool 😂 these kids are so doomed

So - from a concerned parent, as a teacher, how would you recommend supporting critical thinking in spite of AI being pushed in public schools? Asking for the future concerned parent who will face this very soon. 😅
