My son is 8 weeks and exclusively BF, almost every time he feeds he screams. He cries when he slips off or if I rearrange him as his tongue clicks, cries when I swap sides, cries when he finishes. Then he settles and is ok and then goes to sleep once had a period awake usually. But the crying is so difficult. It’s like a piercing scream. Feeding outside of the home fills me with anxiety as I just don’t know how it’s going to go.
He had his tongue tie divided at 4 days old, he’s been to osteo 5 times as he is a c section baby, they have said he’s ok and only a tiny bit tight on one side. I just feel so guilty he’s upset & not content when feeding… I am going to try expressing & bottle feeding today (I know he takes a bottle fine as we have done this already) and see if this makes a difference. I think it’s his oral function / latch causing issues but it is so hard for me when it doesn’t hurt me at all BF, it’s just how uncomfortable he seems to be?!
Not sure what I’m expecting here, just solidarity I suppose? How are you coping? Have you done anything and seen change? Thanks x

We have similar issues. It has got a bit better since I got some good breastfeeding advice (actually from an osteopath who does feeding advice too). She suggested a slightly different position to stop him having to hold his head up as much. I’m sure you’ve already tried this but if you could go to a breastfeeding drop in, or see a lactation specialist, it might help them to watch you feed and make some suggestions?
Incase it helps - I was doing laid back feeding to help with a strong let down and try and get a better latch post tongue tie release, but he was having to hold his own head up a lot. I now get him to straddle my opposite leg (really small adjustment) at a sort of diagonal angle but still fairly upright, and he can rest his head more easily on my arm.
This is my second and it does get easier - often these things iron themselves out as they have more head control, mouth changes shape etc. But it’s so so hard for the first few months when it’s like this - poor you.

Did you consider cmpa? Maybe some of the discomfort is from the cow milk protein allergy... We're trying elimination diet right now
