Blood thinner injections...

I would do them for the time you’ve been prescribed, best to be safe then sorry 😭 I know they are horrible I’ve had them since 12 weeks pregnant and I’m 3 weeks PP now. Have you tried doing them in your leg I found that helps sometimes.

I stopped after 12 days of taking them and I was prescribed 6 weeks

I was prescribed 6 weeks too, currently on day 26😭

I cannot explain how much distress these injections caused me. Like you, i was told 10 days but was then prescribed 6 weeks. They caused me so much upset, I cried all of the time and had terrible anxiety because of them. I would literally think about them all the time.

I also had an itchy rash initially, which increased my anxiety. I ended up seeing a doctor in a hospital and cried in front of him, explaining how i could not manage them for 6 weeks and how they were affecting my mental health. I was hoping they'd be able to give an alternative but I was told there wasn't one. I took them for 10 days and was advised this is fine, on the basis I am mobile. I walk everyday, and drinking plenty of water. I just could not continue with them. My neighbour (whos a nurse) did them for me and she does them everyday in her job, and she said lots of people refuse them so they are told they have to be mobile.

My midwife said today they are giving 6 weeks to everyone lately and she said it seems a bit overkill.

I was originally told to take them from 28 weeks through to 6 weeks PP but after my section they said 10 days was fine. I would definitely ask again as it should be decided on a risk basis. I really struggled with the injection and was covered in bruises on my legs, one of the nurses said it was best to do it quickly, a bit like a dart 🤣 and keep pinching until it's fully removed. Unbelievably it did seem to help doing that!

I called the maternity triage and asked for a second opinion, they told me that they couldn't see any reason for it being 6 weeks.

I have been prescribed clexane injections for 6 weeks aswell. I hate taking them but I know its to prevent blood clots. I dread it every time I have to take it because it stings alot and I'm only on day 12 😩

Gosh same as Kimberley. I was having extreme panic attacks, uncontrollable crying and flashbacks to the birth doing the injections. I stopped after seeking advice from my community midwife and triage.
I’m maintaining being active and hydrating and was told to monitor for any swelling in my calves

I did 3 days of my prescription 🤦‍♀️. I suppose it depends on how mobile you are post birth too. If you aren’t moving much then it’s best to continue them. When older 2 teenagers were born, I don’t even think the injections were standard practice then, I have a section and was never prescribed anything back then xx

I’ve been on clexane for almost two years during ivf and pregnancy & now after an emergency c section. You can do this. It does get easier but still to this day I have days when I pop a little capillary or something and it hurts like a b*tch, so no real recipe I’m afraid. From experience though, it is way better to do them yourself rather than someone else doing it. Just make sure you pinch a fatty area if you can. Also, there will be sites where the needle going in hurts less, that’s where you want to go. If the needle is sore on the first touch, the liquid will sting a lot too, change the site. Thighs are more painful. All of your lower abdomen and love handles are fair game. Stick with the 6 weeks. You do not want a pulmonary embolism or any kind of blood clot!

Oh my gosh I really feel for you! I had them for the 10 days and I really hated them. Im always fine with injections etc but those buggers hurt so much!
