Big baby at 36 weeks

I had my 36 week growth scan today and the baby is measuring over the 95th percentile for everything. He was previously 70th for weight at my 32 week growth scan. I’m now being monitored for diabetes with a week’s worth of finger prick tests and have a scan at 38 weeks to check the growth. They said depending on the size they might want to induce earlier. Im a first time mum and I’m so terrified of having a horrible induction experience that I’m considering booking a planned c section. Does anyone have any advice/experience on induction of big babies?

Induction for Suspected big baby goes against the NICE guidelines.

I had an induction for big baby and reduced movements in my last pregnancy. Baby was born at 9lbs at 39 weeks.
My induction was ok, and my labour was good. But I had lots of complications following the delivery which I think were in part due to the induction.
I have a different consultant this time and he is against induction for big babies. There is no evidence it is helpful and if there are no other complications eg gestational diabetes, bodies don’t tend to grow babies that they can’t birth.

Period-like pain

36+5 weeks today and I keep getting period type pains but there's no pattern or increasing intensity so I'm assuming they're not contractions. My bowels have also been a bit funny the last couple of days, looser than normal. I had nothing like this with my first baby and I'm also suffering with what I assume to be pelvic girdle pain. I have pain in my groin and I'm struggling to stand up, walk and go up and down stairs.

Is this what it's going to be like for the next 3 weeks? Or have people experienced this and labour has followed not long after?

Contractions

Been having contractions since Sunday evening, started and stopped then started again this evening and so much more intense this time, getting really hard to cope with at home but don’t seem to have a pattern yet. Some 5 mins apart some 2 mins. Squeezing my birth comb, squatting at the side of the bed and rocking, trying to breathe through them but it’s getting tough. When do I phone the hospital??? My MIL has a 30-40 min drive to get here to watch my first born then we’re a 30 min drive to the hospital 😭
