Cartoon at Reception

My daughter used to watch newfound every day. She’s year5 now so don’t think they do it but I’m sure she had the same as did my son but he was in an Sen school. Doesn’t overly bother me as they can’t do 6 hours of continuous learning.

For the first week I noticed the teacher had Bluey on the projector when the kids entered the classroom. It surprised me at first but I guess it might help the kids to settle? Maybe it's an ice breaker for them too and they can talk about Bluey and make friends that way? I have no idea 🤣
At the end of the day Numberblocks, Bluey and Zog are all acceptable examples of screen time in my opinion if it's just one episode I wouldn't mind because I feel like they are either educational or have an emotional benefit.

I’d be fine with visual learning, they will be shown videos both animated and not throughout school. I’d be more than fine with Zog or any of the Julia Donaldson ones, numberblocks I guess, especially if there is discussion before and after. I love Bluey but would be interested to know what topic they relate it to when watching. I think there’s a lot of emotional learning to take from Bluey but would be interested to know.

A 7-10minute episode/video if it’s relevant to what’s being taught wouldn’t bother me.

I asked my daughter about whether they watch telly (in reception) and she said no. I was surprised when I've seen posts like this coming up cos I never considered they might watch telly at school.

This is something I have struggled with too, we do barely any screen time at home so I was really shocked by the use of it at my daughter’s school. I dropped her off at breakfast club last week and they had Toy Story playing on the projector, just so unnecessary! They also seem to do Danny Go most days and watch something like Bluey at the end of the day. I guess the teacher uses it as a tool to be able to get a few minutes to do what they need to do. I’ve just had to suck it up and accept it and continue with what we do at home.

I am not very happy about it even because unfortunately after I pick her up and we come back home I sometimes have to work a little bit so she watches TV (not always but sometimes if I have an important meeting... unfortunately I don't have my family here to help me!😔). But if she watches TV at school too...maybe it will be too much and I also think that kids could play together and have fun not necessarily with screen time...

It's likely that this is put on, whilst they are getting the children ready for the end of the day and need the other children to stay on the carpet. This will slowly reduce, once they have settled into routine and the children are able to recognise their own coats, bags and bottles.

NumberBlocks is educational, though. My son’s kindergarten class showed NumberBlocks last year. I don’t know about the less educational shows, though.

Numberblocks for sure, and I know sometimes they have golden time which could be Zog or something similar but I think that's when the weather is poo, in summer they got ice lollies for treat instead

This is something I have concerns with same reason as you sometimes as mothers we have to use a little tv time so I hope at school and nursery they don’t! I’ve been asking at the visits they told me no but then the nursery children were about two inches from tv!!! They still learn through plsy so could be doing play doh or anything rather than tv if want s break from teaching
