First time Mum here!

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday.

I am a FTM, having a boy and I am due in February! I am so so excited 🩵👩🏻‍🍼

I just want to know what are maybe 3-5 of your top favourite baby items/essentials that you have used and would use again in a heart beat. Perhaps things for your babies/yourself during pregnancy/post natal.

Thanks so much 🤰🏻👶🏻🍼xx

What is that pillow that looks like a half moon? It goes around your tummy and you can lay your baby on it while your breastfeed. Get one of those , for sure

The Boppy! That’s the one. Save your back

I'm a FTM, and below are my fave items:
1) Bottle Washer, Dryer, & Sanitizer;
2) Sleep Sack Baby Swaddle;
3) If you're pumping, a good nursing bra that you can sleep in
4) Comfy lounge and sleep wear for you!
5) Sleep gown for baby. Makes nighttime diaper changes easy

Bottle washer, didn't have it with my first, a game changer with my second
If you are pumping, I recommend a mini fridge in the bedroom especially if you have more than one floor
Passive milk collector with a bit of suction, hakkaa manual pump is great to help bring milk in, boon trove or munchkin silicon milk collector is great long term
Red lights for the bedroom, you can still see but it doesn't mess with your sleep so it is Great for middle of the night feeds
HOCL spray, it is good for disinfecting, diaper rash, skin safe, food safe and doesn't sting

My baby is a week old and
1) velcro baby swaddles
2) pacifiers
3) rocking bassinet
4) nipple shield
Without these 4 things my baby would not settle/eat
5) a good lightweight robe you can sleep in, easiest for skin to skin and nursing.

Grandma style linen/cotten night dresses
Love to dream arms up swaddle (size small, newborn doesnt last long)
If formula feeding, dr browns pitcher
If using milton tablets, gloves and working hands cream lol

Water warmer (if formula fed)
Bottle sanitizer
Pigeon bottles
Cozy dream swaddle sack
Huggies diapers

I also want to note that if you are planning on getting the snoo, look into cradlewise instead. It is good up to 24m, I am using it with my second now, it is pricey and not an essential but has been so worth it

100% best thing I own is a fabric baby carrier wrap. Amazing for hands free contact naps and carrying your baby around while you do stuff. I bring it everywhere and it has been an absolute essential. I put baby in there and she falls asleep in under 5 minutes. You have to wait until you’re a bit recovered postpartum to use it so you don’t hurt yourself, but still great for a partner to use in those early days. 10/10 recommend

1) baby carrier - I started with ergobaby embrace and it really saved us, every time the baby was upset we would just put him in the carrier and he would settle in like 3 seconds. I now have other carriers, but this one was great for the newborn phase
2) of course a good car seat. We bought one with the rotating base and I really liked it, because I could breastfeed him in the seat next to him and then comfortably place him (who was falling asleep) in the car seat straight before leaving - considering that he hated travelling by car, this method helped many times
3) a foam play mat! I didn't realise straight away, but it's so useful. I don't have carpet (only hard floor), so I didn't know where to put baby for tummy time/play time etc. I bought a large play mat and I just spend so much sitting on it myself with the baby on the floor to do games/reading/tummy time etc you just need to think of a place where the baby can get some good floor time (maybe not in the first few weeks - but soon enough!)

Night feeds

When did you stop night feeds, and how did you do it? My little girl is 2 and still wakes up at least 2–3 times a night for milk. It’s honestly so draining 😩 Has anyone been through the same? I’d love to hear what worked for you and how you settled them without a feed 🤍

Freaking out

Had a glass of wine at 7:30 instinctively fed at 10:30 without checking milk or pumping and dumping. Am I terrible or is my baby going to be fine? Also drank a lot of water in between the times and feel literally fine

Exhausted

My boy is 7 weeks old breast fed baby and his sleep is so scattered. He’ll have a night with 3 hour stretches of sleep in his bassinet and then other nights that he absolutely refuses it. I’m writing this post at 7am and I’ve been up since midnight because he will only sleep on me and I’m too nervous to fall asleep if he’s on me. Not looking for advice, believe me I’ve tried absolutely everything. Just looking for mamas in a similar situation to know I’m not alone.

Sterilisation

Looking to hear about other people's experiences on sterilisation. I was sterilised on Saturday. Before I went in I was told the surgery will take roughly 30 mins and the pain would be minimal. However it took 2 and half hours and the pain has been excruciating, I'm also getting more swollen since its been done and bleeding more vaginally (but not heavily) I ended up staying in over night because my blood pressure dropped drastically, and I wasn't responding to any of the pain medication. I have no explanation for any of this, as I was moved wards pretty quickly so no one from the surgical team spoke to me afterwards, and i have only my discharge notes to go by, which state everything was normal and went well. Did anyone else end up in an unexpected amount of pain? How long did it last? I've been told I can't lift or bend for 2 weeks minimum, did anyone else manage before this?

Cluster feeding… 🫩

I’m not sure how long I can do this.

Baby is 4 weeks and 3 days and wants the boob almost all day long (he’s already been like this almost a fortnight), during the night he settles in his next to me from about 22:00-00:00 but once he’s awake he’s feeding for over an hour (actively sucking and also comfort I think).

He’ll go back in his crib for 20-30 mins and then the cycle starts again and that’s it all night.

I feel so guilty that I’m getting frustrated but I’m shattered and don’t know how to get out of this 😞
