Cloth diapers?

Any mommas trying or tried cloth diapers? If so what's your thoughts on it? I took a class today about how much money you can save and all the other benefits of them so I'm wanting to give it a try but just wanted to hear people's personal opinions on them. 😊 also great brands to use?

We cloth! I absolutely love it!

Avatar

I haven't but I think it would take so much work. Or is it me that I just hate to do laundry lol

Avatar

We use cloth and it's amazing! You can save a ton of money as long as you dont crazy with the different prints! It's not as hard as some people think!

Avatar

I clothes from birth with my now nearly 3 year old. You get into a routine as with most things and nursery were great with learning how to use them too. I also plan to cloth with new baby. It saves a lot of £ and hassle IMO

Avatar

I've cloth diapered since my girls umbilical stump fell off. I love it. There are tons of cute prints that are still affordable, however resale value on higher dollar diapers is alright too. Favorite low dollar are Alva, other favorites that I own only a couple of are Bella Luna, and Birdie&Liv. They have buy sell trade groups on facebook.

I’ve done cloth for 6 months and LO IS 8 months. We use bum genius aio. Very easy. I wash twice a week (a rinse cycle then wash) and hang to dry outside. Pretty easy and straightforward once u get your routine down. We bought used in great shape on eBay. Make sure if u do but only those that has NOT Been Dyer dried. Sun gets out most stains. Got a ubbi diaper pail to contain smells. Works really well for us. We keep out in hallway tho. (Open to dump a diaper in you get a whiff). Good luck. Personally it only feels feasible to me being at home. We also do disposables when out. Poopy diaper in wet bag in summer day sucked.

Avatar

We did them, loved them, now just have them as back up. That’s all we used for our first. For our second it was too much work with all the laundry and craziness, but like I said we use them for back up. I do about 3-4 loads of laundry every 2-3 days, so adding cloth to that wasn’t my cup of tea. When we just had one I was only doing laundry once a week and diapers every 2-3 days

I love cloth diapers. If you want to try for cheap, I suggest buying sunbaby diapers. You can get 24 diapers with inserts for $108. And it’s recommended to have 24 for washing every other day.

https://sunbabydiapers.com/

That way if you just keep it up for 2 months, you’re still getting a return on your $ because diapers are typically $70/month.

I don’t do cloth at night so I spend $24/every 2 months on diapers and I’m currently using my cloth with my second kid from my first kid.

Avatar

I’ve done cloth diapers since day one! It’s worth it. You save tons of money. Depending on what kind of cloth diapers you use will depend on how much you have to laundry in a week. Not all cloth diapers run the same size. Some run fitter than most. It’s like finding the right jeans! You have to try a few to know what works for you.

I love our pocket diapers!
We tried prefolds and covers first when my son was a new born, but that didn't work for us. We switched to disposables, but I wanted to try cloth again, so we made the switch to pocket diapers, and I am in love! šŸ˜ They are so cute, they fit our little one and our family, and laundering them is super easy. The most time consuming part is stuffing them, but I do that while I watch TV, so it works well for us.
TIP for you! You can buy Alva and Mama Koala on HappyBeeHinds.com cheaper than you normally get them on Amazon. Just shop around. You can even buy "loved" ones on Facebook or Craigslist.

Good luck! Hope you find a type that works for you and your littles!

I have a 3 week old and we are doing the GDiapers! I made my own cloth inserts and we use the compostable/flushable liner so that I could get the hubby on board! We use the flushable inserts when we are out and about! I love them and it is nice to save money and not produce as much waste!

Avatar

I clothe diapered my youngest. Absolutely loved it. The diapers are so cute and once you get a hang of the way cycle/routine it's so much easier. And you never need to run to the store for more šŸ™ƒ Not to mention how much better it is for the environment

My family has been using cloth for years. I just had my first and he's all cloth all the time. We love it! It save over 1,200 dollars a year in compared to disposables and we arent ditching our diapers in the landfill! Wonderful prints, they can adjust to grow with baby and I feel good knowing exactly whats wrapped around my littles bum. Highly recommend! We love Mama Koala, Alva, Grovia and Bum Genius!

Avatar

We cloth diaper, we didnt start until babe was around 2 months, he is a year now. We use the Bumgenius pocket diapers and have never had any issues! It really is not as much extra work as I thought it would be. We prefer the pocket diapers just because the material seems to pull moisture away from his skin better than the aio's we own (bumgenius free time and elemental, and totsbots). My only complaint is we live in a cold climate and cloth is bulky under some of his cold weater stuff.

Avatar

We’ve cloth diapered since day 1. We bought a variety of second hand nappies from lots of different brands to find the ones that worked best for us. We love the BumGenius Freetimes as an All In One, and Little Blooms pockets. We use Little Lamb bamboo and Tots Bots Bamboozles overnight. I’d recommend joining a few Facebook groups if you’re interested in picking up second hand nappies. You might also have a local nappy library?

Avatar

I've got a whole bunch ready for when my bubs is due don't know how it's gonna go down but hoping things will work out as they are helpful and easy to clean as well as more environmentally friendly. Most of mine are the peapods brand.

Avatar

We planned a month or two of disposable then cloth diapers. That ended up getting pushed till about 7 or 8 months due to being busy. We had issues with diaper rash from wetness despite frequent changing. I also hated the puffiness of them and all the snaps for the one size. It was hard for a squirmy kid. We ended up selling them all with my second on the way because we knew, even with my stopping work it's just not ideal for us and our lifestyle. We buy off brand diapers for the most part, just switched to huggies for night bc my 18 month old drinks a ton at night and boy do those hold up! I don't find it too expensive considering the time and convenience savings.

Avatar

I have been using bum genious all in one cloth diaper since my baby was born. She is now 17 months and I swear by them. She has 30-40 diapers. If you buy them at buy buy baby you can use bed bath and beyond coupons on them! I wash every other day and it’s so easy. Have saved a ton of money. If you have more questions message me šŸ˜€

Avatar

Yes love cloth diapering. It really is easy as doing another load of laundry.

Avatar

Yep! I’ve cloth diapered all 3 of my kiddos, we bought cloth diapers in the beginning and committed to using them and saved so much money! I also found that potty training was easier! I have to admit, it’s harder to keep up with when you’re out and about so I do use paper diapers a bit more with #3 because I’m always on the go!

Avatar

I cloth. I wash every 3 days and have been using Alva exclusively with no issues.

Avatar

We cloth! Before babe was due people bought us newborn disposable diapers. Once those ran out we switched to cloth full time. Getting into a wash routine seemed a little overwhelming at first. But once we figured it out, it’s easy! We love our cute diapers! I do pockets just because they seemed easiest and were fairly inexpensive. I’m a huge Nora Nursery fan. And we have mostly Alvas. They do what we need. But we also have bumgenius, Nikki’s diapers, mama koala, and LBB (and a few others). I don’t care for the LBB just because they were always leaking at first. Now I use two inserts and we are good to go.
The only time we use disposables is when we travel! Good luck on your cloth journey!

Avatar

how are these cloth diapers cleaned/washed?

Avatar

We cd’d with both of our girls! My favorite are Cloth-Eez Prefolds, Snappis and Thirsties covers. We get the Hook and Loop because it’s so much easier than the snaps on a wriggly baby. I was nervous because I thought they’d open the diaper all the time, but the onesie solves that problem. Wash every 2-3 days as well. Best of luck!

Avatar

I cloth diapered my son and loved it! Feel free to message me ☺ I used mostly alvas because they're like 6 dollars a diaper AND cute af. I have about 40 with like 10 more coming cause we're trying to conceive. Wash routines are super serious cause if you dont do it right they will repel liquids.

Avatar

I tried cloth diapering my first. I got a ton of cloth diapers for free so I figured why not? Buuuuuuut I’m way too vain lol She was a chunk and it made her butt SO big. Lol So I stopped šŸ˜‚

Avatar

Currently cloth diapering and we love it

Avatar

We have been cloth diapering for the last couple of weeks and it is working out. We picked the pocket diapers cause they are the easiest to put in (most like disposable). We got a small stash from amazon of Alva baby and they seem good so far. There is some leaks in the front but I think he just needs to grown in to them more. Fluff university has great info on what to do when you first get them and how to wash depending on your machine and what to do if they get stinky! We also use compatible bamboo paper on the inside (closest to baby) so we just grab is and flush it. We are easing ourselves in to it all! The Alva baby come with microfiber which wick away the liquid but don’t have a large holding amount. I think that’s why we get little leaks in the front. For the PM we use a microfiber closest to him and either a bamboo or hemp insert under that. Seems to work fine as we haven’t had any accidents and he sleeps ok. It’s a lot of washing and stuffing but you will do the washing anyway.

One thing I want to add is to make sure you and your SO are in the same page. My sister in law cloth diapers and her husband refuses to help her with it. Its a HUGE source of stress for her trying to do it by herself and not having the help of washing out the diapers.

Avatar

We love cloth diapers. I love them so much I started my own CD company called Mudshrimps.

Avatar

I've been cloth diapering for two years. After some time it gets tiring and washing them is gross. You spend a lot of time at the washer machine and it smells awful. Travelling with them is hard. Its bulky and heavy. Clothes also stop fitting fast because the diaper is so big. It takes patience and commitment but you do save money and you will feel good about doing the right thing. I notice they are getting harder to put on my daughter now that she is older.

Avatar

I’m obsessed! I decided to just go in head first and I found an amazing company called GroVia. They have so much information on their website and just overall a really awesome company. I’ve fallen in love with cloth diapering and I’m so happy with them! If anyone is interested in cloth I would suggest taking a look at their website. Not to mention how cute all their diapers are! Also they offer biosoakers, which are disposable inserts, for the hybrid shells. So even if you’re on the fence it’s a great way to start and feel out if cloth is the right way to go for your family. We use biosoakers when we travel!

Avatar

I love them!!

Avatar

We LOVE cloth! We started with Alva but now I'm super obsessed with a bunch of different WAHMs. If you get a good wash routine down it isn't bad at all. Definitely saved a ton of money!

Avatar

We tried cloth diapers but unfortunately, it only lasted a few months. Eventually, our daughter started having rashes because the cloth diapers dont wick away the pee like disposables do.

Avatar

I used both expensive Apple Cheeks ones and cheap flannel ones with a rubber liner on top. I liked the cheap flannel ones just as muchas. It’s easier in summer because you can like dry/ sun bleach them. There’s a website based in BC called Lagoon Baby and she sells all brands and types as well as cleaning products . I used cloth until my twins were about 6 months old.

Avatar

I love cloth diapers! They are amazing!!

Avatar

So far so good! I use viva soft paper towels as liners which made my work sooooo much easier! I don’t dunk or spray any poop! I love it!

Avatar

i never used cloth diapers before. to be honest, im actually scared to.

Avatar

Cloth diapers are great!! I used them but my son grew so big around the legs, you will have to get the right kind. There's plenty of hacks to fit them to the baby bum. Try going to a cosignment cloth diaper store to try the different types. As for the wetness wicking, you have to try the charcoal ones. My son pees alot at night so I had to triple up.

Avatar

Very good if you like laundry

Avatar

We do cloth :) feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Avatar

I love cloth. Definitely cheaper. I love the different covers. I haven't spent too much on covers. Got a lot of thirsties sizes one and two, some Nickie's one sizes. My preference is wool. I plan on making some next size up covers. I like the Green Mountain Diaper prefolds. I have some fitteds for overnight. Never had a leak. I love that they're environmentally friendly.

Avatar

I’d really like to use them and have started researching but it does look like a minefield to navigate! I also don’t know anyone else who has gone down the cloth nappy route so this thread is super helpful

Avatar

Hated cloth lol šŸ˜‚

Avatar

What class did you take? I am going to one this weekend. I am currently trying to figure the cloth diapers out! I have only tried Grovia brand right now and I am having trouble getting the right fit for my son's chunky legs!

Avatar

I love cloth! We've spent less than $300 and that will diaper our little girl until she's potty trained. You've got to have the time for extra laundry though. Diapers easily take me about 4 or 5 hours to completely wash, dry, and put away. I personally would skip diapering a newborn. Too much going on to even fool with it. Bit once things settle down its the best. We started at 2 months. Any questions, just ask!

Avatar

We cloth diaper my little girl! Right now they are SO easy because shes breastfed and her poop is water soluable so i just throw everything into the wash and ta da! My bf was super on board with cloth so make sure you SO is as well (he tells me all the time how great they are and hates when we put her in the odd disposable haha).
My favourite brands are Glow Bug and we use the Mr. Clock inserts for night time and I love the Alva knockoff called Babygoal which I got on Amazon for a great price! I ended up buying a few random diapers from other companies to see if I would like them better but I have yet to like anything but those 2 brands (although funky fluff and rumparooz were okay!).
Check out www.fluffloveuniversity.com for ALL your cloth diapering needs such as wash cycles (you can look up your exact washer), whoch detergents to use (some are not recommended for cloth) and what creams you can/cannot use (some will damage the diapers).
I love love love cloth and cant say enough good things about them!

Avatar

We cloth diaper! There’s tons of FB groups that you can buy used at excellent prices. It’s more pricey up front, I bought slowly during pregnancy. I prefer the AIO style it makes it easier for everyone!

Avatar

I started using cloth when my son was 20 months and I was just about to have my daughter. It's a lot of laundry with 2 in diapers, but totally worth it for the cost savings. I spent about $300 for 25 or 30 pocket diapers plus extra inserts. We would have been spending that every 2 months for disposables. It definitely takes some trial and error to figure out what will work best for you and your wash routine, but again, it's worth it. I definitely recommend a sprayer that connects to the toilet water supply for rinsing. I also recommend keeping a small bin next to the toilet for those rinsed diapers. As far as washing, I do a rinse cycle followed by a heavy duty cycle with detergent and Borax, then I do a whites cycle with detergent and Biz or Oxiclean. I bleach them every few times just to keep any odor from sticking around. We have hard water, so you might find something else works better for you. As far as potty training, my son was potty trained right after he turned 2, so the theory seems accurate.

Peace of mind please

I shot up at 4am last night and had the urge to check my little boy who sleeps in a cot next to our bed.
For the first time he has rolled over and was sleeping on his stomach, my heart dropped.
I was so scared that I picked him up to make sure he was okay and he was just sound asleep…

What are we supposed to do if they roll over in their sleep?! He’s almost 6 months old and I’m prettified of him rolling and it being a different outcome if I don’t wake up..

Just need some peace of mind that this is
okay?

Baby slept all night

Sorry, I just need to post this... my little boy is 12w5d and he slept through from 9:30-6am, woke for a feed and went back to sleep until 8:30!!! I can't believe it. I was obviously up every few hours checking on him and making sure he was ok, so I didn't get a full nights sleep 🤣 but I'm so pleased for him! šŸŽ‰šŸ„³ (not a brag btw, I'm just so pleased and wanted to share)

Car seat

This car seat says 0-14 months. We bought it when my baby was around 5/6 months when he grew out of the old one and the lady who sold it to us in smyths toy shop said it can be used up until 4 I believe but why does the sticker on it say 0-14 months then? Does anyone e else have this seat the joie 360 spin?

moving to cows milk

hi! my boy is one next week and changing to cows milk is really confusing me. he is fed to sleep sith formula three times a day, before his two naps and bedtime. how do i change to cows milk, especially if ideally the cows milk shouldn’t go in a bottle? i just so lost and quite dusted by the whole process. i have a munchkin miracle 360 cup and he can drink through a straw or open cup but before bed seems very disruptive to the routine

Do any mums who breastfeed and co-sleep — especially once baby doesn’t really need night feeds — ever let their baby cry for a bit in the pram to fall asleep, just so you can have a few minutes to yourself?
A friend suggested this to me, but honestly it breaks my heart. I tried it once and it did work, but I’m not sure I could do it all the time. She’s a childcare teacher and said with sleep training you sometimes let them cry for up to 30 minutes… but I don’t know how people do it.
She also mentioned that a lot of mums here on the Gold Coast, Australia do it during the day when their baby’s tired — letting them fall asleep in the pram so they can have a coffee or catch up with friends without having to rush home for a nap.
I just feel like it might not be good for their nervous system and it doesn’t sit right with me… but then again, I’m also a first-time mum.

Would you consider a baby not talking at the age of 1 a developmental delay?

Based off a recent post, someone said that a child that doesn’t speak at the age of 1 is developmentally delayed.

Do you agree?
