Im 15 weeks pregnant and I ordered pasta at my job ( im a waitress ) and apparently there is parmesan romano cheese mixed into the pasta. I ate some. I heard parm cheese pregnant women shouldn't eat because of it being unpasteurized. I just want to make sure its not going to harm my baby:(

Parmesan cheese usually is pasteurized - especially the one you get in the USA. In Italy actually we give Parmesan cheese (12/24 months old) to babies when they start eating solids because it’s supposed to be a very healthy food. You can get some fresh Parmesan cheese but i doubt you can find it in USA (even in Italy it’s quite uncommon) especially grated on pasta. You can always ask the kitchen what kind of Parmesan they use - they will know how many months it is. Hope to ease your mind!

I eat Parmesan all the time, hot or not, doesn’t worry me - but in a pasta it’s hot anyway so any listeria (if it even existed) would have been killed. You’ll be fine ☺️

As long as the milk is pasteurized that it was made with you are all good! And even if it was unpasteurized as someone said above if it’s heated to a certain temp it kills any bacteria it may carry like listeria.

Parmesan is fine. Check out the Prenatal Nutritionist - she’s on Instagram.

Ahh I had no idea!!! I ate parm my whole pregnancy!!!!

If it’s mixed in pasta then it’s cooked and it will be fine, I ate sooo much ‘bad stuff’ in the first trimester because I had no idea, I was literally halfway through a french stick with patè when my mum visited and slapped it out of my mouth 😂😂 don’t worry about it, the risk of catching any illness isn’t any higher that when your not pregnant.

Parmesan is fine. Plus you are in the US you would be hard pressed to find any unpasteurized cheese unless you were at a local farm.

Most cheeses in the US are pasteurized. I eat it all the time but always make sure to read the label first

I've eaten parmesean cheese throughout my whole pregnancy and haven't had any problems. Didn't know you were supposed avoid that one.

Parmasan is fine

I didn’t even know this was a thing... I’ve eaten plenty of Parmesan cheese! One of the only foods that didn’t make me sick was pasta, so I was eating all the time. No issues here... of course I am not a doctor, so what do I know?

Download the Ovia baby tracker app and there’s a whole section of safe/unsafe foods and medications. It’s been a great quick tool I’ve been using

If you follow absolutely everything the guidelines tell you not to eat you’d be living off air for 9 months. I’m not a doctor but I can assure you it is absolutely fine don’t stress 👌

Damn i ate it my entire last pregnancy and my entire pregnancy now lol

Just don’t eat soft cheese. Hard cheese is fine

I dump Parmesan on everything 😂😂. Pregnant or not

If your not in Europe or another country outside of the US you would have to work very hard to find non pasteurized cheeses. In the US it’s more than likely to be pasteurized especially at restaurants unless it’s fancy

Something being ‘unpasteurised’ has nothing to do with harming the baby in itself- they tell you not to eat unpasteurised dairy, undercooked eggs, rare cooked meat, raw fish etc. etc. because with all of these foods there is a bit of a higher risk of contracting food poisoning (due to the fact they aren’t heat treated which kills a lot of bacteria in the food) the risk of getting food poisoning from these things is exactly the same if you aren’t pregnant!!! Only difference is that if you are pregnant and get food poisoning it’s so distressing on your body it can potentially cause miscarriage or pre-term labor.
There is a brilliant book called ‘expecting better’ which actually gives you an insight into the risks and reality of all the things we are told ‘not to do’ during pregnancy. It’s a massive eye opener!!!

Parmesan is safe to eat during pregnancy.

I ate so much goat cheese in my first trimester and everything was fine. Don’t stress too much!

I ate Parmesan, and Pecorino Romano throughout my entire pregnancy.... I hadn’t heard that I shouldn’t. My daughter is 5 months old & perfect 😄
