Dark arm hair making me self conscious

Hi ladies! I have been shaving my arms since I was in high school because I’ve always had dark thick hair on my forearms (I also have PCOS so I think that contributes). In the last month I decided to stop shaving and let it grow back. I’m still getting used to it and it’s definitely longer and thicker but I feel so manly (don’t berate me feminists! I’m not proud of the feeling). Are there any suggestions? Anything I can use to lighten or soften it? Therapy to get me to accept it? 😂

I did a few sessions of laser hair removal and it was a lifesaver!

This doesn’t work if your hormones change. I spend thousands on laser; had a hormonal imbalance and now all the hair is back :/

Bleach it, that’s what I used to do before I started to shave my arms as well

You can buy hair removal pads.. like super fine sandpaper for hair removal and you rub in small circles on your unwanted hair.. amazon sell them cheap. It thins your hair to make it less obvious.. not painful at all x

I have PCOS as well, it is definitely a contributor. I got laser on my most wanted areas (Brazilian and face) and would do it again. The above is correct that it isn’t 100%. The thing is that laser is not really permanent for anyone because not all of our hair follicles are active at the same time, at anytime hormones can activate previously inactive follicles and grow more hair. But it does work on hair that it is already in active growing phases. It would take several sessions, I did 9, but it was totally worth it to me. It’s been about 2 years am I am now needing a tough up Becky have new hair coming in here and there but it is slower growing and not bad to keep up with plucking or waxing it so for now I’m good. Other than that waxing or sugaring is what I would recommend. I don’t recommend bleaching it on people like us because the hair is thick and long, therefore bleaching will just make the light catch it and it will be noticeable in another way but it you think you’d lik..

Like it better than that is an option

I shave my arms too! No judgement 😂

The veet wax strips are awesome and so easy to use!

Oh man I feel for you. I got made fun of in 6th grade for it and have been shaving my arms ever since to this day 🙃🤦🏽‍♀️

Maybe try a trim tool? It typically gets rid of feeling “too” hairy while you adjust back to not shaving. Or just own the hairy arms! Nothing wrong with some extra hair!

I have this same issue. Started shaving in high school and still do Bc I’m so self conscious! Good for you though!!! I want to eventually get mine laser

I stopped shaving a while ago too! I was soooo tired of it and honestly with time I'm just learning to accept it and get used to it.

I think it looks nice! I have hairy arms/hands and I've tried to turn the way I view them round, and see them as a positive! ❤️

Wax. It’ll eventually stop growing never shave it’s pointless & working backwards .

Girl, same. The hair on my arms is dark and plentiful. I used to Nair my arms. But, I've just come to accept them as they are. Shaving/ waxing/ Nair was exhausting to keep up with. I've gotten the off comment here and there wondering "why don't you do something about it". But I just let it slide off my back. They're clearly not my people if they're that concerned with my appearance. ✌

I used to bleach my moustache (with the proper facial hair bleach) maybe that would work on your arms? I’m also hairy with having dark hair and have considered doing this with my arm hair but I usually use fake tan all the time and that makes them look lighter for some reason x

It might get better over time. Hair tends to thin out the more you wear clothing on it (think about your upper thighs because of pants). Maybe as you wear long sleeve shirts for a while it will start to get better. It honestly doesn’t look bad to me. And for real, summertime with sunshine and stuff, your hair is bound to lighten up a bit. I think just a bit of patience will do the trick!

I’ve always had this problem but haven’t done anything about it but I’ve thought about ways to make it look better. Dying it blonde maybe?

I shave my arms every day in the shower. I'm so used to this routine that it doesn't even phase me 🤷‍♀️

Always had this issue. I usually bleach+trim or bleach+wax. Does the trick nicely!

Ugh I have pcos and deal with lip hair, chin hair, could probably grow a beard if I let it, all over stomach and buttocks as well as super dark and thick on legs and arms. With all the work I do maintaining the other problem areas and the cystic acne issues, I can’t be bothered to shave or wax my arms. I don’t like them either but I have learned to ignore. Pcos is so annoying, I have a good healthy self image besides these issues but they are always bothering me.

It really is!! I could have written this. My arms are the one place I feel “ok maybe I can just accept it”, because yes I’m shaving my stomach, plucking my chin, lip, whole legs. It’s exhausting. Is there a PCOS group on here?? Lol

I used to shave my dark arm hair too. But now I honestly don’t care. People can think whatever and say whatever...says more about them than me. I’ve just learned to accept my god given hairy arms haha.

I used to dye them. 😅

I’ve had my arms waxed since I was 13 (I’m now 22) and you can barely see the hair I don’t even get them waxed now

My arm hair is really dark in the winter, but I have sleeves on so I don’t notice it much. It lightens up pretty fast in the spring/summer from being outside

I used to bleach them when I was 15 and then started shaving it off when I was 18 but got tired of it and stopped after a year. You can try bleaching them, or you can also try waxing for a while to get them to grow thinner and less since you shaved them for so long, razors do make your hair grow out even thicker and darker. But honestly it’s a bigger matter of embracing all of you. Don’t look them as flaws but as perks.

I epilate my arms, it hurts the first couple times you try it but you get used to it and after a while you need to do it less and less. I now only do it once every one to two months. I started with hair similar to yours, I don't have PCOS I'm just mediterranean.

I went to therapy to accept my body in college since I always wanted to lose weight no matter what and thought of myself as fat. (I was size 6 at the time) The school therapist told me “oh yeah you could lose some from those sides (my ass)” Anyways, I lived with arm hair all my life but at 32 I started shaving. I feel so much better but I support you 100% if that is what you want. You will get comfortable in time.

I got laser hair reduction on my armpits, arms and legs. Best decision ever.

You can use bleach but you'd go through a box pretty easy! I haven't been diagnosed with pcos but I have alot of arm hair and learned to embrace it forever ago, usually I think about it less when I'm tan! Maybe a little sunlight ☀️

My arms look exactly like yours! I have pcos too. I used to epilate in school but I gave up once my son was born and I was in residency as I just didn’t have the time. Plus I mostly wear long sleeves so I didn’t see why I should remove the hair lol. I started shaving in the middle but hated the itchy regrowth and the frequent upkeep that was necessary. So I go au naturale now. I have medium toned skin with thin wrists on which bracelets/bangles look great but get ruined due to the hair as per my mom, who always tells me to wax. As someone said, laser doesn’t work so well with underlying hormonal issues (been there done that). My laziness and fear of pain prevent me from feeling bad about my hairy state lol.

Omg I used to shave mine also in high school but I stopped once people noticed I had no arm hair they told me it looked more weird that I had none as opposed to having it lol you can use lighting shampoo on it id give it a try or as time goes I believe it’ll lose the thickness mine did when I decided to regrow them

Mine are the same!

I used hair removal cream every month or so and now they actually grow back thinner and less obvious. Its definitely annoying and a hassle but I do it to feel more confident in myself. Shaving must be frustrating. Try removal cream or waxing?

Laser

I’ve waxed mine for years and they barely even grow back anymore x

I would just say embrass it! I shaved my arms for so long when I was younger but then I let them grow back they are darker and hairier but I don’t care what other people think and not many people really look at that anyway! Xx

Girl that is fine i did that too. My doctor said it has to do with the hormones and stuff. Mine got dark then lightened up after had my daughter. Cause i was in the sun more

Have you tried an epilator? I have been epilating legs arms and underarms and mo since I was in high school. Hair growth is thinner. Used to be thick. Some weeks I don’t bother as growth is thin now I don’t feel it’s as noticeable...

Shaving makes the hair grow back darker and thicker, because it’s not disturbed at the root,so the blood supply stays strong. If you were to wax,the blood supply would get weaker and weaker,&the hair will gradually get finer and lighter.Think of a tree with its roots, they get deeper and the branches thrive, because the roots are so embedded.I’ve had laser done,on other parts of my body,&it was the best money I ever spent.I would highly recommend it xx

I still shave mine now 11 years down the line 😬 Maybe bleach the hair? It's less viable when it's blonde 😊 they do specific bleach for arm and body hair I used it in the past and it did make a massive difference.

Mine are the same. It used to bother me but now idc. It's natural. I barely have time to shower let alone shave lol. So I say embrace it

Mine is like that too! I embrace it and actually think it's cute personally. I hated it when I was younger though.

Have you ever waxed your arms? I’ve been doing mine in a salon since I was a teenager and a few years ago just bought a home wax warmer and do it myself

I had really hairy arms for years and was really self conscious but one day decided to have them waxed. It wasn't that painful and now my arm hair definitely isn't as thick. X

I got laser hair removal on mines! Worked like wonders. I was shaving for many many years and it was just like stubble on my arm! Also had my legs, bikini and underarms done! Would recommend to anyone with dark hair tbh x

I have always had arm hair, most of the time it doesn’t bother me but when it does, it’s usually summertime so I use nair hair remover.

It’s completely normal! Mine is really dark too and I have really pale skin, but usually the hair goes a bit lighter in summer if I’ve been in the sun.
