Cruel comments caused postpartum depression

4yrs ago I became a mum first the first time, the world was in Covid which made for an isolating first time experience.

When my daughter was born, my cousin who is 15yrs older than me. Passed a comment saying that β€œwhen people don’t look after their babies, that’s when I visit” it was unprovoked, and a strange addition to the conversation. She also made out that she knew my health visitor (HV), when I eventually told my HV she had never heard of my cousin. And agreed it was cruel and a threat to say to a new mum who was doing a good job. For context she’s not a social worker, but a support worker.

I was taken aback by the comment, and I distanced myself as it felt like a threat. My daughter was cared for, and loved so the need to say it was odd. Ever since our relationship has been strained, she’s never apologised for saying it. And unbeknownst to her, most of our family know what was said.

I’m finding it incredibly hard to be close to her again, as it was a cruel comment that began my postpartum depression spiral.

What would you do?

Need Help

Hi. I have a daughter (13) who struggles with mental health issues. She has struggled with self harm and SI. She has since shifted to emotional eating as a new coping mechanism. We try to control what she eats and hiw much she eats but it's very difficult to say things to her without her taking it to heart. She's very sensitive and has very poor self esteem and unhappy with her body. Her weight is becoming a cause for concern. How can I approach it without triggering her more?

My mom made a "joke" that fully disturbed me

My mom is often quite cruel to me, and that's just her personality. She's a sharp-tongued person. She's always had a strong preference for her son/my brother over me. I always thought it was a good thing that my mom loves my daughter a lot. But, since my brother got married, my mom's treatment towards myself and my daughter has gotten worse. My mom is a bit more harsh towards my 18-month-old daughter. It's a bit more strict but still loving. Recently, because she's been a bit more cruel than usual, I asked her why she was being so rude and mean. She started laughing and said that maybe if she's cruel enough, I'll commit suicide and she can have my daughter. I really couldn't speak, and when I did, I said, "Why are you speaking like this?" My mom got very angry and said: "OMG YOU’RE DOING IT AGAIN. ALWAYS CRYING AND RUINING EVERYTHING. YOU CAN'T EVEN TAKE A JOKE. WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU. NO WONDER EVERYONE HATES YOU." My husband didn't feel very comfortable with that joke and is completely convinced that there is no way she is my biological mother. I somehow convinced him it's a cultural joke. I really didn't know what to do. I never go to my parents' house on my own. My parents come, and they beg and beg until my husband feels sorry for them and has us go. I've been having a lot of conversations with my husband about how my mother hates me. He doesn't buy the cultural differences or sharp-tongue excuse anymore.

Family Issues

Hey guys I’m kinda just here to rant. Basically I have a baby girl who is 5 months and I have already been struggling mentally because I am a young mom 21 and all the family drama about me being pregnant and my pregnancy and birth and everything was not easy and very traumatic for me. Once it was all over I finally saw light at the end of the tunnel. Now I’m dealing with the sadness and disappointment that my once favorite aunt has yet to meet my baby. She doesn’t even acknowledge her existence. She doesn’t check on me. She doesn’t check on my baby. Nothing at all but mind you when I found out I was pregnant. She was the first one to say she’ll be there. I can call her. She has my back. She’ll help with everything I need. but yet my baby is five months and she hasn’t even met her . She doesn’t acknowledge her. She doesn’t ask me anything about her and just last week I had scheduled with her to finally meet her and when Saturday came, she came up with all these excuses this and that she’s busy she’s tired all it is mind you not to just put her business out there, but she’s not working right now so she doesn’t really do anything but sit in the house all day and apply for jobs so I’m sitting here like why are you so tired? What are you doing? That’s so tiring that you can’t take at least an hour out your day to meet my baby or you can’t take an hour out your day to text me and check on us or call me to check on us. mind you I’m a full-time student I’m a senior in the upcoming fall semester. I work full-time and I’m a full-time mother so I feel like if anybody’s busy it’s me but I still make time for what I wanna make time for .it’s been like that for a while like every time it seems like she’s finally going to meet my baby. She comes up with an excuse so at this point I’m just like oh you don’t want to see her you don’t put in any effort to see her. You don’t acknowledge her. You don’t check on her so at this point, I feel like cutting her off because everything she told me was a lie and now she’s acting weird when I really need her the most but it just hurts my feelings, cause she was my favorite auntie and she used to call me her favorite niece and I just don’t feel like it anymore and I kind of feel like she’s mad at me because I did get pregnant young but at the same time when she found out like I said, she said she was gonna be there for me and just because I was pregnant, nothing was going to change So it’s like at this point I know what I need to do cause my baby girl comes first, but it just hurts my heart to know that I may have to love my aunt from a distance.

Sex during pregnancy

Partner cheating multiple times

Me and my partner have been together 8 years we have 7 month old..he cheated previously and should of just left but I didn’t..gave him to many chances
Since having our baby there’s been other things and now he signed his self on a dating website which I found out from a friend…I know I need to leave but don’t want that for our baby. I’ve said I was gonna leave before and he threatened saying that I’m not allowed to leave with our baby and so on.

I love him which makes it all so much harder, I don’t know how I still do after everything. I’m just in two minds with it do I just forget about it all and it properly will happen again but like my baby have that β€œfamily unit” or get out and found myself again
