Got the call today that I have gestational diabetes☹️ my # came back as a 204 and now comes the changing of the diet, checking my blood 3-4 times a day, and my doctor wants me to take a class to better educate myself at my delivering hospital. Ladies I am so sad I don’t even eat bad! Nor do I eat a lot of sugar! I’m so worried about baby at this point and I just want her healthy. Any advice for this stressed out mama?

You’ll be okay just gotta take yourself it happen to me also && my kids was healthy.....

I’m so sorry to hear that I take my sugar text this Thursday and I’m beyond nervous , mainly because I’m this past couple weeks I done ate a lot of sweets and sugary stuff

I had the same thing and trust me it’s not bad at all. I was able to control it and aside from just cutting bread from my diet, i was able to keep my same diet and my levels were always good when I checked them. The class was very informative as to which foods you should be eating. If you’re already eating healthy then this won’t be much of a problem for you at all :)

I got a 300 on mine.. lol!!
It’s fine, checking your blood doesn’t really get annoying ever, in fact sometimes I find it interesting to compare meals - sugar levels, and eating like they want makes you healthier habits for after baby to lose the weight afterward faster anyways!
Also, WATER and work out! ☺️
PS I cried too.. and than I cried while boxing up my pantry to donate 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I also developed gestational diabetes during my pregnancy. I was very upset as my diet was quite healthy and I couldn’t understand why I ended up getting it. It’s not that you weren’t eating well, it’s because your pancreas can’t produce enough insulin for both you and your baby. I ended up needing insulin as my body would start producing more sugar while I was sleeping known as the dawn phenomenon and the Somogyi effect. They told me during an ultrasound that my daughters stomach looked a bit bigger then what was normal and so my concern obviously grew! I was very worried about her health and well-being but she was born healthy and with no issues whatsoever. My sugar levels returned to normal as well. Just need to make sure you keep up a similar diet as to what you’re eating during that period of time while dealing with GD and pregnancy as the chances of developing type 2 diabetes is greater now that you’ve had gestational. They’ll want to check you for diabetes around 6 weeks after then every 3 years.

Yeah i was sad too I cried when I found out but it's not your fault. Your placenta is the culprit! It releases insulin blocking hormones it isnt anything you did or didnt do so dont beat yourself up!
When the placenta leaves, your GD will go too! The class will be super helpful and will prob bring some calmness to you when you see it's pretty common and can be very easy to control!
best of luck to you mama!!

I had gestational diabetes with both my boys.... they were both very healthy and still are at 4yrs and 7 months!!! Just stick to the diet and make sure you check your sugars.....it’s not your fault it’s the placenta! You can do this mama!!!

Drink Calm plus Calcium. My midwife had me drink it every day and it really really helped with stress.

Same here it’s not as bad as it sounds a lot of women get it I just had my baby I controlled mine with diet and honestly I think the rest was wrong because I just stopped worrying and if I had a craving I would eat but I’m moderation of course. I now have a beautiful healthy baby girl and she was not overweight in fact she was really small healthy but small. You’ll be ok trust me :)

Thanks ladies! You all have given me comfort, I guess I’m done being a cry baby. Time to be a mama lol

I read all comments I'm sure you feel better. I haven't read anything worrisome. Good luck mom, everything will be ok. You have birthing to worry about now. Good luck.

I have it now with my daughter and honestly although I cried it’s not that bad my baby is healthy and as long as you keep a good diet you will be fine. I even indulge in some sweets very rarely. I never understood why I had it as I didn’t have any sweets but once I knew it was just my body not creating enough insulin I felt less at fault . Don’t stress out mama cause I’m 36 almost 37 weeks and my sugars are amazing

I just learned us moms who have had gestational diabetes have 70% more chance to get diabetes. :(

New to the group and all these comments have been helpful. In my case I’m having trouble with my fasting sugars. Did any one else experience this? Now they want me to me on medication but I really would rather not. Has anyone else felt the same and if so what was the final results? Yo take the medication or not?

How far along was everyone when they were diagnosed ? My baby has only seemed larger than gestation now at 30 weeks. I am about to book tests..

They told me I have gestional diabetes. Im controlling my numbers and at fasting i have been 91/ 94 always under 100 which is mormal. Bit they saying its high.
This nutrionist is forcing me
To do insulin but I really do not want it.
What should i do?
At night it is usually 141/131. I do not get it 😓

I know this is an old thread but I’ve just found out I have GD and like others have cried like a baby. This pregnancy has been really tough all along...my first after 6 rounds of IVF, clexane injections every day, cervical cerclage at 18 weeks and now this. I’m so worried. I don’t have a bad diet but if I need to change things, particularly with this pandemic, I don’t know how I’m going to be able to because I can’t even get out to the supermarket and even then they don’t have any of the things I might need. So worried.

Same boat, mornings were some how hard, I noticed drinking and keeping your self hydrated helps. I really don’t have a good eating schedule n that’s kind of hard for me. But tried to stick to 3 hrs snacks n that also helps. No pastas or rice for sure. Then weekends come n it’s even harder. 33 weeks now I have an appointment Tuesday we’ll see I think I’m not doing so great but definitely trying to avoid the usage of insulin.

Same here girl , i came to know after 4 weeks, my Gp said its normal but when i went to midwife she diagnosed me GDM, last Friday i made changes to my diet and exercise and today i had ultrasound my baby is weighing higher , some of mine friends has gon through this and now their baby is born healthy.

I’m 26 weeks today. I had the 3 hour screening and it came back positive. I’ve been crying since I found out. Thank you to all the women who’ve shared here! It’s helped calm my nerves. 💕✨
