Hip Pain and Sleeping šŸ˜ž

Hey, I’m currently 37+1 and like most pregnancies I’ve suffered with hip pain throughout the night, but usually managed by getting fairly long stretches of sleep before it wakes me snd I have to turn to the other side.

This is no longer working and I literally feel like I need to switch after like 10 mins or so… so sleep is extremely disturbed!!

Still using my trusty pregnancy pillow to support me…
Anyone experienced similar later on in pregnancy and have any miracle fixes?

Please no ā€˜just wait till babies here’ re disturbed sleep. I am fully aware and prepared and I can’t bank sleep so it’s just pointless negativity that no one needs to hear. Thanks xxx

Sorry no resolution but I’m also having the same exact issue and looking for help! šŸ™ˆ

Sames. Sitting up relieves it as mine also hurts when lying on either side. So try plenty of pillows for support to sleep sitting up

I’ve got this too. I’ve found waiting to go to bed until I’m super tired helps a bit as I sleep through a little of the discomfort.

I’m 34 weeks and I’ve had this for the last 7/8 weeks now and it’s just getting worse I could cry I’m that exhausted nothing helps I’ve got pillows everywhere and tried everything I possibly could but I can’t remember having a good sleep in such a long time xx

Having the exact same, it’s horrible!

I’m 35 weeks and I’ve been suffering with hip and rib pain at night, I feel you 😢😢 I’ve noticed that if I take a heat pack to bed with me and put it on the side I’m laying on it helps to ease the pain and I have to switch sides a little less. However it doesn’t always work! Xx

I find my hip and lower back pain is worse when I don't get my bedtime routine right. Sounds mad but my best night's sleep are when I put myself to bed properly.
Bath or shower right before bed
Gavisgon/heartburn preventative
Oil/moisturise bump
Night cream for face
Water by bed
Magnesium supplement
Lavender oil burning
Sleep spray on pillow
Preggo pillow in right position
Phone ALWAYS on do not disturb 10pm-6am.

Same problem here, can only suggest pillow nests as others have, and a pillow between your knees to alleviate the hip pressure a little.

I was saying the same to my auntie yesterday and although she’s not been pregnant she used to have severe insomnia and said that magnesium spray changed her life recently. Essentially a little spray to rub into your skin and it gets her so relaxed and she can fall asleep really well.
I’m suffering the same as you so thinking of giving this a try. FYI, she said it’s safe in pregnancy as far as she knows but wasn’t sure about breastfeeding stage due to transfer to baby so I’d suggest a little research first xxx

I also tend to find a paracetamol and hot water bottle laying behind me helps when I can’t get back to sleep, sometimes I just lay the hot water bottle flat on the bed to make the area hot and then just move my hip to the heat once I remove it šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ sounds so silly bjt I’ll do about anything just to get back to sleep xx

Sleeping sat up is my only option right now as I have rib and hip pain. Lots of pillows and a pregnancy pillow around the bottom of your back

I have had really bad hip/pelvic pain since about 24 weeks, I would recommend getting a birthing ball, and looking up pelvic pain exercice. I have a little routine that I do morning and evening. It has made. Such a difference, at one point I really struggled to walk it was that bad. I also got a spiky plastic ball to rub my hip with and it feels so nice. The bad news is it gets worse with every pregnancy (which I didn’t know before deciding to grow 2 humans in 2 years! Hope these tips help. And also not all babies are terrible sleepers so don’t listen to the negative horror stories from everyone. X x

I find propping the top of the pregnancy pillow on more pillows so your head is up quite high helps take the pressure off to start. For me, the hip pain does still eventually hit but not until well into the night rather than every 10 mins xx

I get this, it became so bad I had to bite the bullet and pay for a chiropractor. They advised that when I’m sleeping to make sure I’m not over rotating my hips/pelvis so sleep with a pillow between your knees to keep your hips and pelvis level. I also make sure my bump and back are supported with a pregnancy pillow which helps to balance out the weight.

If you dont have one, get a birthing ball as it helps to ease the pressure throughout the day. Keep active with walking, pregnancy yoga and hip strengthening exercises. I have oersonally found these videos useful

Sorry long message but hope it helps!

No magical fixes to suggest I’m afraid, just to say I feel your pain and you’re not alone. Have been struggling with PGP since about 16 weeks and the nighttime’s are now unbearable, have had women’s health physio but hasn’t helped much. Have taken to paracetamol to try and help after going for much of my pregnancy without. Just counting down the days/nights now. Will have a read through some of the other suggestions people have put up! šŸ¤žšŸ¼šŸ¤žšŸ¼

Thank you for all your replies and suggestions…

I have suffered since early on with some fairly ā€˜mild’ pelvic girdle pain… so I have tried a lot of these suggestions already… I’ve coped fairly well, it’s just these last few weeks are a bit of a killer and it’s ramped to super level….

I am on the birthing ball a fair bit that does an half give me back ache)
I do morning and night stretches
Hot water bottles, pain relief.

I did contact a chiropractor but am super reluctant to spend that money so so close to her arrival.

Magnesium is not one I have tried so I guess that’s the next step…. 😊

Had SPD since the 22 week mark but like you it’s only got really really bad in the night these past few weeks! I’d say I’m waking every 20 mins to roll over but it feels broken every time I do! I’m 37+2..

I have a V shape pillow around my head and shoulders and a V shape pillow between my legs.. I’ve found if I use it one night and not the next it seems to help (I don’t know why).. I’ve taken to folding it in half too to get more thickness.. I try and make it so my hips are in line with each other and what would be shoulder width apart if I was stood (knees too)..
I’ve also recently taken to a hot water bottle on my hip.. that does help!

Epsom salt baths before bed I have found helped a lot. And also, once the pain has eased I have found I can stretch better before bed which has also made a difference. Magnesium spray also a great idea. It tingles when you apply it but that’s nothing to worry about.

Any recommendations for a magnesium spray?

I’ve got this one

I’m 37+1 too experiencing the same. I just hate going to bed cos I know how bad it’s going to be. My midwife just said not long to go šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø and if another person tells me to ā€˜bank sleep’ or ā€˜get plenty of sleep now’ after I’ve just told them I can’t sleep I’ll probably scream!!! It’s so frustrating isn’t it xx

Burnout

I have the odd day (like today) where I feel completely wiped out, without energy, physical especially, even if I had we good night sleep. I try entertaining baby as much as I normally do but it's a lot! Don't know if it's burnout or what.. will mention to gp in case I have some deficiency but again it's not everyday. Baby is only 4 months, am I too old?? And we'd like another at some point šŸ™ˆ don't know how mums of multiples do it

Reduced movements

Baby hadn’t moved for about 2 hours (that I can be sure of) but has now got hiccups and moving slightly again. Should I still go to triage or is that enough for things to be ok?

Growth scan

Just had a growth scan 35 + 2 and they said baby is weighing 3.5lbs, I had a growth scan at 28 weeks and he was 3lbs then. I’m back for a scan in 2 weeks but they said if he drops again they will look to induce me at 37-38 weeks now I’m scared!
