Cervical checks at NHS midwife appts?

Hi everyone, I have my 38 weeks community midwife appt tomorrow and was wondering if from now on they offer cervical checks? My understanding is that if everything is regular my next appt is at 40 weeks which feels so far away. Thanks!

I'm 38 weeks today and I've got midwife appointment on Thursday hoping I can get her to do stretch and sweep and check dilation but not sure how it works if she will want me to wait till around 40 weeks or if they will help me out I've been 2cm dilated for about 1 week now

My local trust only offer sweeps when overdue unless there is a medical reason to do so earlier. This would also be your first examination.
I'm due today and midwife offered a sweep at 40 week appointment which is Thursday x

I never had a cervical check with my daughter as her head wasn’t engaged at any midwife appt so no point. It wasn’t offered until the 40 weeks appointment. You can ask and see what they say

Normally First cervical sweep is offered at 40 weeks, unless there’s a medical reason to do otherwise

I’m almost 40 weeks now and they only offer a sweep before 40 weeks if you have a reason! I’ve had 2 sweeps now but only because I’ve been into hospital a few times and I’ve got gestational diabetes so likely to have an induction if I don’t go natural. They don’t usually like you to have one before 40 weeks being low risk xx

They’ll only do a sweep if you want one and generally only from 40 weeks. The risk of introducing infection for no reason isn’t worth it! Cervical checks are common practice in the US, but not here.

My community midwife offered a sweep at 39 weeks if I wanted and said she'd do another at 40 weeks if nothing happens. But I said I'd wait until 40 weeks and have it then if needed. I don't think they'll do anything at 38 weeks to get things going (unless medically necessary) as ideally they want you to make it to 39 weeks.

Over due date as said above it's odd because from being on here I noticed Americans get offered them weeks before due date, it's a pain but I agree with the time frame we do it

Depends on your trust. Here sweeps are offered routinely from 38 weeks

At my 38 week appointment, they offered me a sweep at 39 weeks, which I had today. The consultant did a scan, then checked my cervix & said a sweep was 'favourable' as cervix had softened a bit. So you can ask for a cervix check and not necessarily have a sweep unless you want one is my understanding. The consultant said the baby's head wasn't engaged at all, but that didn't mean the cervix hadn't started to change. Hope that helps... x

As far as I'm aware they won't do checks or sweeps until 40 weeks at least. They won't meddle x

Would you take your almost 4 yr old to a birthday party at an indoor play place during spring break, with a 10 week old baby?

I know it will be crowded as heck since it’s during spring break. I’ll be holding my 10 week old the whole time but nervous that we might get sick from being inside with all those people for so long

Group B Strep positive labor and baby

Hi,
First time mom to be here, currently around 37 weeks.
Can anyone please share their experience of labor and how was the baby health in the first weeks, months when tested positive for GBS and receiving antibiotics during labor?
I was blessed to not have any serious complications during whole pregnancy and was really looking forward to unmedicated easy-ish birth hopefully and healthy baby but now is concerned about me being able to stay mobile during labor and having side effects for antibiotics, and for baby to have microbiome negative affects due to antibiotics taken..
Any insights or experience would be helpful.

Pushchairs

Out of curiosity, have we turned babies forward facing in their push chairs yet? I’ve kept her facing me as I’d rather see her 😅 I assume it doesn’t matter either way? (7 months on the 8th)

Hormone drip

I’m being induced on Wednesday, with my first baby I was induced but I can’t remember if I had the hormone drip as I was so out of it from gas and air and pethidine.

Can I refuse it this time? As I’ve heard it makes contractions more painful, or can I say if I do need the hormone drip, I will need an epidural can the 2 coincide?
