Group B Strep positive labor and baby

I was treated for group b strep. Stayed plenty mobile, no side effects. The way to have a healthy baby is to take the medicine. Most hospitals require you have an IV in during labor in case an emergency happens, you probably won't even notice the medicine during contractions honestly, I barely noticed anything.

I was GBS+ in 2 of my pregnancies which is why I requested to be induced as my previous labours have been really quick (4 hours after waters) I was allowed to be up and about as much as I wanted but did have IV antibiotics during labour, it can’t be passed to baby until waters have broken, I wasn’t GBS+ with my 5th but had precautionary antibiotics anyways at my own request but that labour was totally different to my others, 9 hours and hormone drip.

All my babies are absolutely fine they’re 11-9-5w2d, I did have to stay in for 24 hours tho so they could do obs on them x

It didn’t seem like a big deal tbh. They treated me with antibiotics as soon as I got situated at the hospital and that’s the last it was ever really even mentioned. It didn’t seem to have any effect on my child, to my knowledge anyway.

Hi I work in maternity, if your GBS+ the best thing to do is, as soon as you feel the first contractions or your waters break phone the hospital and head straight in so they can get antibiotics administered, just remember to mention GBS+ so your not told to stay home longer etc.
It doesn’t really alter anything else they just need to get antibiotics into your system to cover baby.

I got treated for group b strep and bubba and I got thrush, which is common after recieving antibiotics. Was slightly painful for me (it was on my nipples) but managable with cream.

Just make sure you are taking pre and probiotics and things like yoghurt, which helps support the good bacteria.

So I’ve been GBS+ in all 3 of my pregnancies (currently pregnant with 4th but very early so not been tested yet)

I have precipitous labours so from first contraction to actual birth is 2hrs or less, I barely have time to make it to hospital and as a result have never even managed an hour of antibiotics, it’s been like 30mins max.

They just kept me 24hrs with each baby as from when my water breaks to baby coming out it’s about 10mins so it’s just not long enough for anything to occur.

Never had any issues relating to my GBS+ status with any of my babies

I guess first there is nothing to be ashamed.. (I didn’t discuss why and what now’s with my midwife yet, just saw the results online and for some reason was thinking the cause has something to do with poor hygiene or diet but reading more on this and it’s absolutely have no relation to it).

I’m glad babies stay healthy and just need probiotics as well as mom after birth, and that labor preferences most likely won’t be affected negatively, the only thing to head to hospital on time.
