The guide would say a vest but I feel it is too cold. What is everyone else dressing their baby in underneath?

Just a vest for us under a 2.5 and he sleeps a dream. If he has any more layers on he wakes up sweaty. We don't have the heating on through the night.

It depends on the room temperature really. I see the room temperature and the tog, then I decide what to wear. For example, if I have 21 degrees in the room and a sleep bag of 2.5tog, the sleep bag is quite thick (2.5tog is standard winter tog) so I would use a vest with long sleeves only, nothing else. If I have a 2.5 tog sleep bag and a temperature of 18 degrees, I would put a vest with short sleeves (covering the shoulders) and a T-shirt or thin cardigan, and leave the legs naked. It can get quite warm inside the sleep bag.
If the baby sleeps in the cot, my suggestions are ok. If the baby shares the bed with you, keep the clothing light because your baby will heat up next to your body. I read that babies are programmed to resist cold better than heat. They were built to be born in caves or in the bushes. So they're equipped to stand a bit of cold (e.g. don't worry if the baby has cold hands). Too much heat is worse. Hope this helps.

Sorry I wrote a T-shirt but no, I meant a shirt or top with long sleeves (over the vest with short sleeves). So I would invest in covering the torso, shoulders and arms and leave the baby naked from waste down (except the nappy), which is the part of the body in the sleep bag.
