Hi Mums
Just wondering when you started weaning your little bubs? I’ve seen a mum online who started weaning her babe at 24 weeks (which she believes this to be 6 months - ie. 4 x 6 = 24) but to actually go by months I was told to it would be the date of when they were born? Ie. My little guy was born 27th Sept so he would be 6 months on 27th March, right?
TIA x

I dont think it makes that much of a difference for a week or so difference. But my HV said 6 months not 24 weeks. X

It is safe to start when baby is able to sit up without support x

I don’t think anything magically changes the day your baby turns 6 months 😅 whenever your little one looks ready whether it’s a few days before or after 6 months 🤷♀️

The who recommendation is 180 days min which is closer to 26 weeks, there are other signs to observe as well though.
Thanks all. Yes we tick all the weaning requirements from the NHS website just curious as to when others thought the 6 month mark would be, appreciate the difference is only 2 weeks (24 vs 26 wks).

I started giving my child bits of fruit through a dummy from 4 months. I also gave her Ella's kitchen packets which are targeted for babies who are 4+ months and she's been fine

I had this exact conversation with my mum. She swore blind 24 weeks was 6 months. My only argument back was that she isn't a year old at 48 weeks, is she? But in terms of weaning, do what feels right for you and your baby. If you meet all the requirements, go for it

My baby could sit unaided at 16 weeks so after a week or so after started giving him porridge as he was being fussy with his milk and was so interested in our food when we ate. He done so well with it and eats brilliantly now he's 6 months tomorrow. I also listened to a podcast recently and a womans baby had lots of stomach issues with reflux and a paediatrician actually recommended to wean from 4 months too.
Just go with whenever feels right for you & baby
