Hi Mommies!
I have a 5 month old baby boy and ever since he was about 1 month old he’s screamed while trying to poop. He is only drinking breast milk and when he was younger I chalked this up to being dyschezia but he’s still doing this at 5 months. It’s not every bowel movement, only 1 time a day (usually in the mornings) and his poops are always soft and never hard so it’s not constipation. It’s heartbreaking and defeating to see him struggle for (usually) an hour to poop and sometimes he cries so hard her just falls asleep. I’ve brought this up to 2 different pediatricians and they do not seem concerned and keep telling me “he’ll grow out of it” .. but everything i’ve seen online says dyschezia dissolves in a few weeks but it’s been months so i’m worried something else is going on and am considering seeing a specialist but trying not to be a dramatic first time mom.
Has anyone else experienced this with their baby? I am desperate for answers and don’t know how much longer I should “let this go”.

I learned it's just something that happens for a bit until they have more control over their bowels. It takes time learning how to poop and a five month old hasn't been alive long enough to figure out pooping. Just from my experience with two kids of my own and from working with babies before

I mean, I took my son to an ophthalmologist at 3 months because of asynchronous blinking. It turned out to be nothing but it's better to go and get that confirmed than to sit and worry. If you have access to a pediatric GI (or something) I think you should go.

My girl will be 5 months next week and she still has this issue too. It breaks my heart watching her struggle 😞

My breastfed girl, too. I will say, not at the same intensity that you are describing though.
