Waving, clapping, and pointing

My baby turns 1 in 3 weeks and still doesn’t wave, clap, or point. To be fair, I really haven’t clapped with her so I can kind of understand why she doesn’t know that one yet. She does reach for things she wants but doesn’t point. And she doesn’t wave at all and we do that around her a lot. I plan on discussing this with her pediatrician at her one year appointment but I was just wondering if anyone else is going through this? She’s always hit her milestones but she’s been on the later side of the age range usually.

Have you waved in front of her ?

My LO doesn't wave or point yet either. He does clap since we started doing that for exciting or good things, we clap and say YAY. I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much. Every baby is different, and as long as there aren't any obvious delays, it should be fine. Also, waving, clapping, and pointing were just examples of basic gestures that are common. My LO knows some other ones, for example, holding up his hands to be picked up.

Mine claps now but only because we worked with him for about a month every day on it....and he wouldn't do it on cue ever until one day he just started clapping randomly on his own and when we start to pay attention he would stop lol. He now claps all the time and will do it on cue. I had a little clap your hands song I would sing to him while we were teaching him about it (obviously clapping his hands for him as well as clapping our hands right in front of him). We are still working on waving but I think he will get that soon. He doesn't understand pointing at all haha. He just reaches out towards whatever he wants and makes noises until he gets it.

Ms Rachel helped my son immensely with clapping. As far as pointing, he doesn’t really point yet, he’s more vocal than pointing lol. And he literally just waved for the first time last night and we’ve been working on waving with him for a long time lol don’t freak out too much mama, babies do things as they please 😂

I’m in the exact same boat. My son seems to be so focused on other things like crawling/standing/ walking that he doesn’t care to wave point or clap. But I try to encourage him to do gestures everyday!

we do but maybe not enough. It’s not like every day. Mainly when we are visiting my parents or on a play date.

thanks! I’m thinking maybe I just don’t do it enough for her to catch on yet. We’ve never seen ms Rachel but we just started going to story time where they clap so I’ll have to do it more often.

I feel the same way! She’s just learning to stand without holding on to anything so she’s spending all her time doing that haha

Mine doesn’t clap, wave or point. I was at the dr for other reasons last week and asked and they weren’t concerned at all.

My baby doesn’t do any of these yet either but is starting to stand on his own a lot!

Avatar

that’s exactly where we’re at! This past week she just started standing on her own and she tries it all the time now haha

I have two boys. One of them is not Neurotypical. If you want to talk more, you can message me. My 11 month old now claps, but not as imitation really. He does it on his own just when he’s happy. I think it really started because he liked banging toys together so much. He points, but there’s some debate over what type of pointing counts. Apparently they should basically be pointing, and then looking to see if you are also seeing what they are seeing. But I don’t know because some other people say that he has done that to them so it might be that he doesn’t understand that I don’t see everything he does because some kids have a problem with that with moms (because sometimes if I’m not paying attention he will lean forward in my arms while looking at my face). He doesn’t really wave. He reaches for people when he sees them, doesn’t really want to go to them, so I don’t know if that’s his wave or not. The clapping is a 15 mo milestone now (for excitement).

He’s somewhat waving now! Still not pointing or clapping but his 1 year appointment is coming up on Thursday and I was going to bring it up with the pediatrician to see what they thought. Overall I’m not super concerned as he’s excelling in other areas!

Mine just started waving in the last week! He still does not point 👉 just reaches for what he wants and open and closes his hands (looks like the sign for milk) however he is really trying to talk! He says Nana (for banana) Milly (for Aunt Amelia and Nini (that's my mom's grandma name). He tries to say all kinds of words everyday he just doesn't have all the sound skills yet. Kind of said bye bye once when he was waving bye bye to Dad.

Avatar

Of course! And my son babbles and screeches he has yet to say mama but he says dada all day long, I don’t think he’s made the connection on who dada is though. He also has different grunts lol I’m able to decipher what he’s wanting by the grunts he makes!

Hi!! I just wanted to update you on what our pediatrician said! She has zero concern about our sons development at this time. She said that he probably doesn’t feel any real incentive to do gestures yet/ learn new words because he’s focusing on other skills like standing/ walking and other things. She said that if he hasn’t made any improvements In that area by 15 months then we can consider some sort of therapy but most babies catch up by their 15 month appt.

My baby is not even 4 days old and loves to roll on his left side to sleep.

No matter how many time I correct him back on his back he still rolls over. Should I be concerned? His bassinet isn’t wide enough for him to fully roll. When he side lays he can’t go farther than that.

I decided to give my fiancé the baby and finally take a nap being that I was on go for almost 24hrs straight! I’ve told him a NUMEROUS amount of times that he has to turn the a/c when he puts her in her bassinet bc the air goes directly over here

I just woke up to my baby crying and literally shivering to the point her lips were starting to turn purple. And he’s SLEEP!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

I want to punch him awake so bad. How do I bring it up to him without crashing out??

Should I be scared for whenever I have sex again?

I haven’t had sex since I was 5 months pregnant & my daughter is already 16 months old. I had a second degree tear as well haven’t even used a tampon or put my finger in there as I’m scared it might either hurt, feel weird or be very loose 🤦‍♀️

Pacifier falling out of mouth

My son is about 1 month old. I was wondering if anyone has tips for helping him keep his paci in his mouth whild he sleeps? We generally only give him the pacifier when he sleeps at night, if that makes a difference.
