Chiropractor appointment for baby

I’m very curious 🧐 my in-laws and my husband want me to take our baby for a chiropractor appointment. I have known the doctor for 8 years and the in-laws for about 28 years. So I’m confident in this doctor and he offered the services that is why it was brought up. I’m very conflicted for a first time mom. On whether or not it is a good decision. Is there any other moms out there that have thought about it or are doing it?

I will be doing it! I'm currently seeing one now and just think about what a baby goes through when you give birth, all the squishing and getting out of alignment.

Avatar

Is there a lot of dangers though? I was the kind of person who put off the chiropractor forever cause I was scared they would pinch something and I wouldn’t be able to get feeling back.

Avatar

I wouldn't, your OB didn't suggest it

Avatar

Been doing it since my baby was born (4 months now). He was stuck breech so when he came out his head was stuck to the left, now he moves his head freely! This chiropractor helped me when I had part of my neck was misaligned from an accident so I trust him immensely. He is also not the cracking your back kind of chiropractor either which I believe to be important factor.

My baby just had her second appointment. They have a small device that just does the tiniest amount of pressure for adjustments and they barely use it. It's mostly just exercises and massages. She loves it... until they try to put her on her tummy. Hates being on her tummy

My LO has been seeing a chiropractor since she was a week old. She’s almost a year now. The adjustments are slight holds .no cracking and popping. When my Lo was little she would fall asleep afterwards or during . She would also have a good poop afterwards. It’s so beneficial for their development. Also can take a toll on the baby’s spine and cranial. As my Lo got older. It helped her with crawling, standing, cursing, and walking. All the “falls” and “bumps” that happen when they learn how to reach those milestones - the chiropractor was able to keep everything aligned.
Now I know you’re either for it or against it. I’m all for it. I could be biased because my partner is a chiropractor as well. Lots of benefits for everyone really…. Not just babies.

I also take my son to the chiropractor. Been taking him since he was three weeks old.

The chiro barely touches him. Just does slight pressure with his fingers in the problem spots. He is also making sure my sons head plates are growing properly/equally.

Avatar

I went to a chiro my whole pregnancy and if I had not moved I would’ve taken my son to them too. Chiro care can be such a helpful tool and help with all kinds of things; walking, crawling, ear infections, allergies, etc

Avatar

Personally, i think the ob comment is a strange reason not to do it, I don’t ask my ob anything about my sons health. Just his pediatrician. My ob had a positive reaction to me getting prenatal chiro care.

Avatar

We do it end love it! Baby is less pukey and helps with their jaw pain from feeding. Plus the chiro he’s wonderful tips for age and how to help keep babies body strong

Avatar

I brought my babe as well. If the chiropractor is trained correctly for newborn/infants, it is more of like a physical therapist treatment. They don't do the same thing on babies as they do on adults

Avatar

my midwife suggested we get our baby done, i was adjusted when i was pregs and didn’t feel much of a difference. but some people swear by it! just make sure the chiropractor is licensed/specializes in babies of course. my midwife also told me it’s a “natural” way to adjust baby by holding them upside down by their shins. they’ll instinctively twist either way and it helps align or something 🤷🏼‍♀️ idunno, i haven’t tried it but she did say she’s done it with her kids

Avatar

My baby hasn’t been born yet, but Jess from whereisbriggs on TikTok/Instagram takes her baby to the chiropractor. It has helped her baby’s temperament and her ability to travel so much, plus baby just doesn’t look as uncomfortable in videos as she did before.

Avatar

I would get it approved by a pediatrician first.

Avatar

I definitely wouldn't. Chiropractors aren't actually medically trained, and hold no medical certification. Everything known is just from practicing on patients and passed onto other chiropractors. This means that to adjust babies, they would have had to practice on babies. Some people swear by it but I wouldn't do that to my baby personally. It wouldn't be worth the risk.

My boss almost died because of her chiro. She was going to this lady for years and one time, while aligning her neck, the chiro somehow ripped the membrane that holds the liquid around your brain. After that chiro visit, my boss started to get dizzy, nauseous, weak, confused until she was taken to the hospital and stayed there for ages. She had to have several procedures done to try and fix it. She wasn't able to return to work for at least 4 months and when she did, she struggled badly. I used to like going to chiro but I wouldn't go ever again after seeing what happened to her

Avatar

chiropractors definitely have to pass a degree and a 4 part national certification, at least in the states

People are scared of they don’t know. I would want a chiro adjustment if I was curled in a ball for 9 months then had to undergo a transition from womb to world. It’s a lot for a nervous system. I have worked for various chiropractors in my life, there are good ones and bad as in any type of medical profession. Tips on finding a good one, reviews, people are very loyal to good chiropractors. Time it takes to get an appointment, if they have new patient appointments tomorrow, not a good one probably. Look for at least a two week wait time, that means they are busy and for a reason. Avoid places that advertise treatment for auto accidents, it’s well known in the industry that auto claims are the best way to make money. These people may be new and trying to start out but they also probably prioritize profits>care. My son just turned three and has been going to our chiro since he was 15 days old. My posture has totally changed since starting with my current chiro 4 years ago.

Avatar

As others said, child adjustments are usually very soft, usually they just give the body a little tension( stretching out) or super soft pressure on certain points so the body can correct itself. Your baby isn’t going to get “cracked”.

As someone else said, chiro school is no joke, they take the same classes as medical students for 4-5 year but more anatomy and phys classes are more in chiro school vs pathology in med school.

I think there's a lot of negative press around chiropractors for some reason. I'm not saying they are all great but there are definitely great, trained ones out there that helped me in pregnancy and with my newborn. You just have to do the research and make sure you are going to a reputable one. Like most things. But you also have to realize chiropractors that know what they are doing, and are trained for infants, don't adjust them the same way we think about adults being adjusted. It's much more gentle.

Avatar

absolutely. That's not what I said though. They're not medically recognised and have no certified MEDICAL training. It's an alternative form of treatment. They train by practicing on people. That means that to work on babies, they had to have practiced on babies. As I also said, each to their own, but I personally wouldn't. Nobody needs to be offended by that, that's just me and my reasoning, lovely.
Thanks for commenting x

Avatar

idunno what medically recognized means, you mean they aren’t called doctors? you said they aren’t trained, which isn’t true (they do preceptor hours just like any other healthcare field) and hold no certification, which also isn’t true (like i said, there is a national standard you must pass to practice). there’s also specialties, i know the chiropractor who adjusted me in pregnancy completed a certain course for pregnant women. i don’t know any healthcare field that doesn’t train through practice? i couldn’t care less if people use a chiropractor or not, i didn’t even feel a difference when i tried it out, i was just attempting to share the correct facts.

Avatar

hi ladies.
I don't know why you're both trying to debate/argue with me... I literally only gave reasoning as to why I PERSONALLY wouldn't take MY baby to one.
You can absolutely both go to one and take your own children and that's wonderful for you. I just wouldn't. Why does that offend you so much?

Everything that I said we're known facts. It is an ALTERNATIVE form of treatment. I didn't once say they don't go to school for it.
I also didn't say they weren't trained, I said medically trained. Again, it is an alternative treatment with limited research into it. What research has been done has been inconclusive and varied.

Tthank you both for your replies. I'm sorry my comment offended you so.

Avatar

girl! you are reading into my point too much 😆 i have no offense whatsoever. like i said, i could care less if someone uses a chiropractor. everyone has the right to their own choice. last thing i’m on this app for is a debate. i was only sharing facts that disproved your statements. you’re saying you didn’t say things, but you did… i was trying to explain so others aren’t misinformed. peace n love ✌️

Avatar

, I commented on a post asking for opinions. I gave my reasons as to why I wouldn't use one and would never take MY baby to one. I didn't lie about anything. Im a pediatric nurse and I would never recommend it for a baby. Whether you like it or not. It is an alternative form of treatment with little and varied studies & results.
I also didn't look into your comment too much, it was you who both jumped down my throat with huge paragraphs to try to lecture me. As a healtbcare professional, I would never recommend it for a baby, it's that simple. Have a wonderful day., both of you x

Avatar

our comments have been about information, since the info you shared was false, not your opinion. just trying to keep misinformation from spreading, not lecturing xx

Avatar

it wasn't misinformation. It IS an alternative form of treatment. This is widely known. While they do require extensive training, they are never fully qualified as a Dr, therefore aren't recognised as an effective treatment. To work on babies, they need to first have practiced on babies, and with there being very scarce evidence of its effectiveness in treating disorders and illnesses, it isn't overly recommended for babies. I work with children, none of what I said was false. There simply aren't enough studies into it, and what studies there have been have come out inconclusive. Hence my comment. Again, not misinformation. Just a healthcare professionals recommendation.

Avatar

please see your first comment which is what i was trying to correct in the first place. it’s right there in lexi’s last comment as well. that’s the misinformation. they are doctors, just not MDs. they are trained and certified. i’m done expending energy on this topic, i give up. 👋

Tablet for kids

Alright don’t need any negative Nancy’s telling me not to get my 2yo a tablet so if that’s what your gunna do please don’t participate in my poll.

We’re about to move cross country 3+ day trip and my 2yo and 9m hate the car I’m talking scream their heads off till they are out of their seats. We’ve already changed car seats and it didn’t help so I’d like to at least have one entertained and sit next to baby and try and distract her or put her to sleep. Our new car has tvs but since they are rear faced my 2yo can’t see it.

Debating getting her a tablet or dvd player right now on long car rides I end up giving her my phone because I get so overwhelmed sitting in between both of them screaming and crying.

And yes I do bring different toys I bring snacks I play songs try to distract her other ways but for the sake of not losing my mind on this move I think this is best.

-A very overwhelmed and anxious to move mama 😓

My friend is over from another country but I don't feel like leaving the house

One of my old friend's is visiting where I currently live and we agreed to meet up today but I feel so tired and exhausted from everything that's been going on with me. I feel if I meet her I'm going to end up having another breakdown from the exhaustion which I have been having often. I'm just thinking about how I need to rest to be able to deal with my toddler and go back to work on Monday without feeling like I need another weekend. I'm torn on what to do so I need you guys to help me decide

Weaning

Hello mamas, could I get some advice please with how and what to wean as started this week with my baby but not really what to give and when what time day. Have started with puree vegetables and making them myself and offering it in the evening to my baby but she tends to get irritated and tired and has a few spoonfulls and then gives up and has a meltdown. So I’m questioning myself am I feeding her wrong time of day and what’s best to mix the food with milk or baby rice please.

Struggling

My husband works and does so much for me and my baby girl. However I get annoyed every time he hops on a video game he usually plays for 1-2 hrs if she's still awake and has like 3+hrs of free time once she goes to sleep (i co/contact sleep). The last time I was able to have actual free time was last month when I tried to turn some onesies into shirts for baby girl to sleep in- and I wasn't able to finish them and haven't picked them up since lol. The only free time I get is while she's napping right next to me where I can't move an inch or breathe too deeply or she'll wake up, or when I shower. Crafting used to be my outlet and now if I were ever to tell him that I need to craft I don't even know what I would do or where to start I just sit there and stare.... just losing myself and I'm struggling with it. Does anyone else feel the same way? What do I do?
