Ladies, I highly recommend this book!! I’m only in first first half but it is so informative. The author looks at many studies on the typical pregnancy recommendations and presents facts. Then you can make an informed decision on your own pregnancy!!

Agreed!!!

I loved this book!! Very quick read too and it’s very engaging.

I read a good amount of it too but what is your actual take on things like sushi and drinking wine occasionally? I brought this up to other expecting friends, and everyone seems to really advise against

after reading I was ok with having the occasional glass of wine in third trimester- the evidence seemed to show it wouldn’t be of harm. Then I read this study that came out in 2022 after this update so now I’m unsure.

I think I’m ok with a little sushi if it is from a high end, reputable restaurant

I loved Expecting Better and have just ordered her parenting one, Cribsheet, which a friend says is good. It made me more relaxed about drinking occasionally (I’m still in 1st trimester so only maybe half a glass of wine once or twice a week now, but looking forward to a little more in my 2nd/3rd tri!). Pre pregnancy I thought I was going to be more chill about rare steak (I miss that way more than wine!) and the book made me realise it’s actually a good idea to avoid that. Sushi I’ll just go for cooked ones, like the yummy ones with tempura prawn in the middle and avo on top! Or with crispy (cooked) salmon skin

I looked up what Emily Oster says on that study - she has a (paid) sub stack called Parenting Data with lots of good articles. This is currently only an abstract and so hard to critically analyse the small scale study. She says “Bottom line: There isn’t enough information here to really comment in detail. But the existing work is voluminous.” Don’t think it’s enough to put me off the occasional glass!
