Has anyone given birth to breech twins vaginally? I was hoping to have a home birth with our girls, but they are both breech. I am 33 weeks so it’s not looking likely that they will turn around. If they don’t, we will have to give birth in a hospital (which I was never opposed to, especially if it’s what’s best and safest for my girls and me) but I still have options. There is a doctor who could deliver them breech or we could opt for a c section. I’m honestly not sure which I would choose at the moment, looking to hear others experiences. I want to experience the process of labor and giving birth naturally if I can, but I don’t want to risk having an emergency c section either

My plan was to deliver vaginally in an OR, Baby A was head down and Baby B was breech so we were good to go cause my OB said he could grab Sissy's feet and pull her out, but at 34 weeks she flipped head down too so I pushed them both put with ease! I felt a lot safer delivering in the OR where I knew intervention could happen at any time if necessary

I had almost the same delivery as except my baby did not turn, she was transverse. They did an ultrasound to see her and I had told them I did not want a c section and my dr, who wasn't able to deliver me, had said she could deliver baby b breech as long as baby a was head down. While they contemplated turning her, her cord started coming out so they had no choice but to pull her out by her feet. She came out just fine and was healthy! At my hospital all twins are delivered in the OR as anything can happen and that way they can check baby b after baby a is born.

@Hillary yes!! I think it's pretty standard in the US to deliver multiples in the OR, it just makes sense with the monitoring and emergencies that can happen. When I told people that he could grab her feet and pull her out, they'd look at me so crazy but when he told me I was like "sick, that's nice!" 🤣🤣

I was down for anything that kept me from a c section. The only downside to a breech delivery is baby has to see a pedi orthopedic dr for their hips as breech deliveries could mess with their hips. We were lucky enough or baby girl's hips were perfect every checkup and she was done after 9mo. Some aren't as fortunate and have to wear a brace to help their hips.

Aww that would be so hard!! Im so glad she was perfect and you guys didn't have to go through that 🥺🫶🏻

If both of my babies were breech, I personally wouldn’t risk at home or vaginal birth. Too many things that could go wrong. I also didn’t want to recover from having one baby vaginally and one C-section. That would have been absolutely awful. I had mine planned C-section because Baby A was breech and baby B was transverse. My doctor wouldn’t even consider vaginal with baby A being breech. Honestly I wouldn’t change anything about my birthing experience. My C-section went really well. Another thing to consider is when you’re delivering. I delivered at 37 weeks and 1 day, which is considered full term, and my baby B still had 4 days of NICU time. But that could happen with any baby.
Along with the hip concern comments make above about delivering breech, something to keep in mind is that twins automatically have a higher risk of having hip dysphasia. Especially if breech and even more so if female. Might be something to talk to your doctor or a pediatrician about to help you decide 🤷🏻♀️

Have you tried spinning babies techniques? Or asked if you could schedule an ECV? Ideally you wanna get baby A head down, it’s a lot easier to deliver the baby B breech since baby A has already made a path for them to come down out of.
Personally I would just opt for a section if they’re both breech and you can’t get baby A in an optimal position, but to each their own. 🤍

Both mine were heads down. I was induced at 37 weeks. I also didn’t want to be sliced so i labored for 24hrs and was dilated at just 9cm. Baby A was slightly meconium stained, she was also in distress and i was having fever. Ended up having an emergency c-section. I would always choose being in the hospital giving birth coz i don’t want to take any chances. Anything could happen.

I’m 37+3 with DCDA twins and both are breech 😔 I would really like a vaginal delivery. In the UK c section is recommended when Twin A is breech.
One thing you need to know nearer the time is exactly what position each baby is in, in case they are at risk of interlocking during labour. This is the main risk of vaginal delivery of breech twins.
My twins are in positions that make interlocking very unlikely so I’ve been told I can go for vaginal delivery if I go in to spontaneous labour before 38 weeks. Apparently it’s too dangerous to induce breech twins, so if they don’t arrive by 38 weeks I need to have a c section.
