Hi all, I ended up having a C-section a fortnight ago and I have had to ask for more medication as I still had pain after the period they gave medication for. I’ve finished the blood thinning injections and now have the anti inflammatory and dehydrocodine if needed.
I’m finding that I’m having an on and off sharp pain in my right hand side that some days are barely there and I feel like I don’t need meds, then other days it’s unbearable.. is this normal recovery or something I need to bring up with my midwife? I’m also finding I am bleeding.. then it completely stops.. then starts heavy again ?!?
Health visitor just said it’s normal? But wanted to see if anyone had this?

I had the pain in the right side of my scar and the bleeding. I ended up having an infection so maybe call the postnatal line, thats what I did to get seen :)

That's okay, it was a sharp stabbing pain in the right side of my stomach that shot down to my scar :)

I’ve had the same thing with bleeding. My C section was on the 16 March and I only bled for the first week, and quite lightly after the first couple of days. It stopped for a full week and then just came back suddenly and very heavily on Monday for one night. The same has happened again today- heavy bleeding after nothing for a few days.
The midwives advised me that it’s nothing to worry about as long as you don’t soak through a pad in an hour, pass any clots bigger than a 50p, or have any signs of infection like a fever. They said this often happens as part of the natural healing process, and sometimes due to increased physical activity.

I had my second C-section 8 days ago. The bleeding ebbing and flowing is normal, you also won't bleed as much as with vaginal birth. Above my scar my stomach is very tender and gets painful when I have gas or need the loo... The pain meds can make you constipated, adding to your pain. So they prescribed lactulose as well when I was discharged

I had all of this and i currently have an infection x

I'm having a similar experience! My midwife said more pain in the right hand side of the scar is common - the theory is that it's because most surgeons are right handed, so when they're moving things around in surgery, they're more heavy handed around your right side!

I was told the sharp pain/pulling sensation is where they tied off the stitches. I’m 4 weeks out and only in the last 4/5 days has it really started to feel better.
If you can avoid laying on your right/using your right arm or leg to get yourself up and try to rest as much as possible it will get better.
Bleeding will come and go, the norm is about 6 weeks :)
