Hi all. Had my 36 midwife appointment today and bump measured at 97th percentile (previously had measured small so was sent for a growth scan at the time). Should she have referred me for a growth scan this time too? I won’t see the midwife now until I am 38 + 4 and this just doesn’t feel right to me.

Hi , I’ve been measuring over 97th percentile since 33 weeks. And I’ve been having growth scans every 2 weeks . But I think this maybe because I was diagnosed this week with gestational diabetes (37 weeks) . I was tested at 33 weeks and was told I didn’t have diabetes.
I think they maybe go off estimated baby weight if that is looking consistent then they may not require another scan. As I know we have been told our baby is on the large side so we have now arranged a c-section at 39 weeks (although I don’t think I’ll last till 39 weeks)
I would drop a message to your community midwife and ask if there is any reason there isn’t a growth scan as your now over 97th ? X

Thank you so much for coming back to me. How would I know the baby’s weight at this point?
Hope all goes ok with your c- section xx

No worries , thinks it’s under fetal weight . It should be on your last hospital notes or your last growth scan . Defiantly message your midwife today , no harm in having another growth scan x

I was measuring in the 90th percentile and had a growth scan yesterday. I'm on the 50 percentile and baby is currently 6lbs and 13oz which is perfect for my height and weight. The midwife who scanned me said measuring with a tape is never right as it's so subjective to who measures and how they measure.

I was referred for a growth scan at my 36 week appointment due to bump measuring over 100th centile, I've been measuring between 90-95 usually and midwife never referred me so might be that your midwife is happy until it goes over 100 as anything before 100 is considered normal. Don't forget things like babies' position as well as things like bloating can impact these measurements, if midwife hasn't referred I'd imagine it's because she isn't concerned. Just keep monitoring movements and if you aren't happy contact triage or your midwife x

I've had my community midwife measure me, and each time has gone "she's huge and growing very fast, she's a chunky baby!", and then having to go for growth scans at the hospital where baby was actually under average, so the measurements are not accurate at all by tape measure. Don't let this worry you! ☺️
If you are unsure, you can always drop your midwife a message and ask for an appointment to see her - it's your pregnancy, your labour, your birth etc. So if you need or want some more support or appointments, just ask for them. It's all about making you comfortable 😁

I’ve rang the community midwife who is going to speak to the doctor and come back to me. Thanks all for your help 🙏🏼
