I never got to hear my daughters heart beat at our scan. They just let me look x

Yeh at my 12 week scan they didn’t let us hear the heartbeat x

They don’t let you listen, I didn’t even hear it at our 20 week scan they just showed her heart beating

My midwife only let me hear mine at my last appointment (28 weeks)

You can hear it at your 16 week midwife appointment however you have to be 16 weeks and over- I was 15+6 and she said I couldn’t listen had to be bang on or over 16 weeks c

I hadn’t listened to our baby’s til I went to the specialist about possible NT issue. I would just ask, see if they will as I’m pretty sure they don’t just share it anymore. I was about 12 weeks then and it was hard for her to get it with them being so tiny! X

I think it's very small and hard to hear at that point? You'll get to hear it plenty as you go along. I ask to hear it at my midwife appointments if it isn't routinely done, they're always happy to do it 🥰

I’m an ultrasound tech- it’s very standard to not listen to it. We use something called “m-mode” instead. This is when you see the “waves” on the screen instead of hearing it. It introduces less sound energy to Baby’s tiny heart than traditional Doppler (where you get to hear it). It is a precautionary practice- we always use this ESPECIALLY in the first trimester. There’s no very serious evidence that I’m aware of about negative effects of Doppler, but with something as precious as babies, many practices play it safe and don’t use it unnecessarily.

I’ve had my 12 week and 20 week and haven’t heard the heartbeat just seen it flickering away! I’ve paid for a couple of private scans where we’ve been able to listen!xx
