Hi,
My son is 21 months and is not saying any words. He doesn’t point to things either ( I’m thinking it’s because he’s super tall and likes to do everything himself lol). His motor skills are great, but at the min he’s only babbling vowel sounds and words like mama’ but not associating it with me. He makes these sounds randomly. It is adorable 🥰
I have spoken to my health advisor about this and she has referred us to do speech therapy which I’m hearing the waiting list is beyond crazy.
So my question is…
Do you have any tips on how to encourage a toddler to say more words?
I know every child develops at their own pace but I feel like I’m letting him down and need to do more.
He’s enjoying learning with miss rachel, but I don’t really like him watching too much tv. Plus he is not interested in me reading books.😕
Sorry for the long post but I would greatly appreciate any advice xxx
Thanks 😊

We're in speech therapy and they aren't actually teaching him how to talk yet but we are doing 'object reference ' and 'intensive communication' and makaton.
But Jakob doesn't really communicate at all (although he's starting to do bits) so we are concentrating on supporting his non verbal communication.
We do LOTS of singing and ridiculous exaggerated voices, games which he can respond to like catch, peekaboo etc.
Our first step is literally just to get him to look at us whilst we're communicating with him :)

I tend to narrate alot so when my LO is playing with his cars I'll just say something like "you're playing with your red car. A car goes vroom vroom and has 4 wheels" etc etc sometimes I'll just read books next to my LO even though he's doing something else
We'll sing songs - we also love miss Rachel so we sing alot of songs from her show.
