Wondering…..

Just wondering how much do your partners/husbands/other halves help with baby? I understand they may work full time and help with the house etc but in terms of baby how much do they help / what do they do to help? Really feeling unappreciated today & feeling like when’s my break!?

My husband and I, take it in turns for bedtime and he looks after our daughter if I have appointments etc, with no complaints. He has been great tbh. We had a discussion before she was born where he said, you need to spell out to me what is needed and required, so I did and continue to do so and it works. He has mentioned that he struggles to know what she needs and what to do with her, if he has her for longer periods of time. So that's the next thing we will work on.

I feel this is the same!! 😫 this makes me feel slightly better that maybe the secret is to spelling it out to them 🤷‍♀️ I just don’t get what is so hard to be forthcoming to help out … I feel I need to be going out for him to help otherwise I’m just expected to cope & do it all while he works/gyms ! 😩

Oh, they need a step by step guide, I'm yet to meet a guy who knows what to do! After a tough night, if I say, take her so I can sleep, he will keep her for 2hrs (as she's BF), but if I don't, he wouldn't think of it. So now I tell him exactly - do you wanna take her for a walk? Can you change nappy? And if longer period, I would say, she need to sleep in an hour and change nappy before. He's clueless otherwise, but loves to help if I tell him. Plus he's learning her signs too

My partner works long hours and I ebf he sleeps in spare room for work, on a weekend he’s back in with us, lo is going through 4 month sleep regression so understand he needs sleep for work or he’ll have an accident he does bedtime routine most nights, as this is the only time he gets, today he’s done house work took her for a walk so I could nap and tried to help but if I’m there I think he takes a step back and I have to say like she needs a nappy change etc it’s really hard as we are both exhausted

Avatar

Ps he does say things like can you putt her to sleep I’m eating and I could scream when the f do you think I get to eat a full warm meal when I’m on my own all day lol

Avatar

My partner does not realy help apart from baths and he plays with her when hes home from work making her laugh and smile etc but as soon as she fusses he hands her straight back lol he’s only changed 3 nappies since she’s been born and that was the first few nights when I was fucked. It’s kind of our agreement though that I’d look after baby and if I did need help or at breaking point then he will help out.

Avatar

Before we had ours he was very much like I’m going to work full time so you will be doing most of it because I physically won’t have time which I do totally get- however for us it’s the opposite as soon as he’s home he takes her off me to play and feed her and in the morning goes to work later to spend more time with her and even said he wants to do the nursery runs when they start. It’s crazy how much it can change but they are all different!

Mine helps loads! BUT sometimes I do need to ask him and explain what I need him to do, I think that's just men! Its annoying but if I ask him he will do it! x

My husband decided to get a second little job on weekends afternoon/evenings as he is thinking of money so i never get a break! I got myself a little job on Saturday and Sunday from 7:30-11am so he looks after her then but when I’m home its straight back to me…. Im sooo tired!! 😴😴

I need to spell it out to my partner too. Sometimes I'll give him 2 options to choose from (he'll usually pick the one where he has to just watch/entertain LO while I do the chore), but anytime I've asked him to do something he's always done it. He can make the milk, feed him, put him to bed (if I explain all the steps), change nappy, change clothes, play (in his own way) etc. He'll also take LO for a walk or drive if I want extra sleep on the weekend.

We also have always bathed our LO together. I havent got the knack of doing it alone yet and need someone to help. Sometimes I get in the bath with LO sometimes my partner does.

But yes, I have to ask every time I need him to do something. Hlthe only thing he does on his own is daddy-son play and cuddle time. 😆

We both work. I work from home while my partner goes out and comes home by 5-6pm everyday. So it's only a few hours in the evening on weekdays that he can help. Weekends he will help more if I ask

I do everything baby during the day then when I get home he takes over and I do housework etc.

It’s like you have 1 job and another to deal with other. Guys are so clueless 🙄

I barely get any help with the baby! I can count on one hand how many times he’s fed and changed our boy! And don’t get me started on the amount of times he’s been out with friends or gone to the gym!! He thinks because he hoovers every 2 weeks and cleans the bathroom and kitchen every 6 weeks that’s his bit done! I’m on the verge of leaving if I’m honest! I feel like a single parent! Xxx

I'm honestly lucky thay my husband does all the cooking, chores, helps out with our little one without being asked while working full time. If he feels like I'm struggling he will tell me to go and have a break or something and he'll happily look after our baby. I'm beyond blessed. 🥹🧡

My husband has been brilliant! He proper looked after me my whole pregnancy, and when LO was born from c-section and taken to NICU he was by her side always, he even had to show me how to feed and hold her as I was struggling to recover from c-section. Now he can’t wait to get home from work to spend time with her and does 1 night feed a week so I can get some proper sleep.

Avatar

Mine does everything and doesn’t need things spelled out. He works full time and cares for the baby both before work and straight after. He pretty much does all the feeds too during his works (babe refused the bottle from me due to breastfeeding at the beginning and this never changed) so I’d say we split 50/50 even if he works full time (from home).

Post partum dad

I have a 2 month old. A few weeks ago my husband crashed out because he didn't feel like he was getting to bond with her. I started exclusively breastfeeding around that time and honestly didnt see the big deal. Baby and I left for a few days and when we got back home, everything was fine. He was extremely hands-on. He helped with my meals, her bedtime, bath, stories.....for a few weeks it was great. Then he randomly sounds depressed af. He says our lo is better off without him, he wants to sleep all day , he asks me not to watch tv then tried playing a video game. He refused to reply to me when i asked any follow-up questions. Then he woke up our baby trying to race me to the bathroom first thing in the morning . He's doing a weird mix of crying, trying, and giving up. Im starting to feel like I cant handle him not being able to handle life with baby and just want to be alone. Are there resources for men?

Is it bad of me to think this or no?

My husband has been abroad for work (1 day and exploring for 1 day) for 2 and a half days which means I’ve had both kids (1 year and 4 year old) for 2 and a half days plus cooking, cleaning, taking them to clubs, bedtimes!
He came home late afternoon and said I’m so tired, I just need to chill. I said can you wash up whilst I sort kids dinner out, he said he’ll do it later which means he won’t do it and I’ll end up doing it so I said no do it now please otherwise I’ll end up doing it and he said well you have been home and I’ve been away so you’ve just been relaxing.
Don’t know what planet he is on but having the kids alone for 2.5 days is not relaxing. I was stressed!

When he was away, I did miss him and wanted him to come back but now he’s back, I want him to go away again😂
Is that bad?

Shift worker daddies - advice please?

My husband works shifts (6am-6pm days or 6pm-6am nights) so when he’s on shift we either get about an hour or 2 before he goes to work or an hour or 2 when we gets home with him.

I don’t think people who aren’t married/have babies with shift workers fully understand the impact of feeling like a solo parent sometimes.

Does anyone have any advice? I do have parents who can help but I struggle to leave my baby with others as I always feel like they don’t understand the need for tracking wake windows or feeds and our baby will not sleep unless we black out a room or go for a car drive . Everyone seems to think ‘if he’s tired he’ll drop off’ - no he’ll just get overtired and have to then pay for it during his night sleep. So I feel like it’s just easier for me to do it all myself.

When my husbands off work he is great but I do take the mental load of telling him what to do or even reminding him of wake windows etc because he’s not here and forgets routines. He’s also being tested for ADHD currently so there’s that on top of shift work.

Just looking for advice on how to stay sane/keep routines or share loads with shifts workers?

Thank you ❤️

Feeling like I’m failing

Hey guys, I need some advice or some positivity here!
My daughter is 5 months next week and she has her first tooth coming through! Yay! But for the past month or so she has become so wary of family whenever I go to visit! She screams, won’t settle, cries the whole time. I went for my birthday to celebrate and I had to leave because she just would cry looking at anyone :( it’s so hard because she used to be so good with anyone!

Will this change or is this just the way she is? I try to see them as often as I can, and my MIL is looking after her in two weeks overnight and part of a day and I’m petrified of what’s going to happen, that she’s going to scream. My poor MiL 😭. I’m a very calm and collected person and I don’t get worked up when she does react this way… I just feel so sad and down that I can’t be with family and that my poor girl is scared. I give her so many cuddles, milk, toys, going to a quiet room, but she just doesn’t settle 😭

Please someone say this is a phase and there is light at the end of the tunnel ?!!

With the weather getting nicer I just feel we are going to miss out on so many lovely family memories

Really bothered by this

A friend posted this and it really bothers me because that is exactly how she parents her kid, and it's rather unfortunate because when our kids hang out together, her kid has a meltdown at least 5x within an hour. We have know them for years and it's only gotten worse. My kids will concede to hers, because they don't want to see their friend crying, but it sucks because they give up so much of their toys and enjoyment to keep the peace. We aren't hanging out as much anymore but it's rather sad to think she doesn't intervene more in her child tantrums and just let's it slide
