My Bub is 4 months old today, is it okay to introduce solids. I found some baby food that’s says 4month+ and would like to start giving bub that. Currently he is bottle feeding and mostly he is very fussy and doesnt wanna feed. His weight gain is not that good either so was hoping to start with solids.

When I spoke to the baby nurse about when to start she said that baby needs to be able to sit up and hold their head steady and show interest in the food.
Maybe have a chat to your GP when you have your appointment for 4 month vaccination ect if you haven’t already had it. They should be able to give you some advice on starting.

My bub is 4 months and we have started with solids. So far we have only had banana and sweet potato purée, he absolutely loves it. I’ve been told that As long as they have head control, can sit with assistance (arms, chair, bouncer ect) and has some interest in putting hands and toys in mouth then your good to go! Make it as fun as possible and embrace the mess! Good luck x

My son is 18 weeks and we started solids yesterday! I was told by my maternal health nurse that if he’s acting interested and has good head control we can start! He’s been formula fed since 4 weeks and his weight is on the lower end so that’s why I’ve started. He stuffs his hands and toys in his mouth constantly and he follows my mouth when I eat so he definitely wanted to begin. I also find it’s a nice new activity! We’re only doing a few teaspoons at a time of apple purée but he loves it

My little one is also 4 months today 😊. We are looking at starting with solids as she has so much interest in our food and will sit in her little counter high chair without any issues. Also keen to read other people's advice too

I have read that too!!

is you baby already sitting ??

she can mostly unaided but sometimes she's a bit wobbly, unless in her high chair, she sits up and doesn't fall over. I think we're going to wait to start though

my bub is 3.5 months and he's right on track to be able to start at 4 with head control, sitting, and VERY interested in food BUT it's likely I'll wait closer to 6 as he's already dealing with digestive issues. May chuck him a sneaky nibble before 6 though ;) lol

I hate being that person that's like "oooo be careful! This publication says this, and this Paed said this" 🫠😅 buttt:
*Your baby does not need any additional food until 6 months of age. Four-month-olds still have an immature intestinal system and cannot control their muscles for chewing and swallowing, and therefore they are not ready for solid foods.
Trying little tastes and feeling textures should be right though! But breast milk or formula has all the nutrition your baby needs up until then.*
But at the end of the day, you do you! I hope it all works out well!! Can't wait to feed bubba solids, such an exciting journey 😊
