Basically my LG was sleeping well in her cot next to us but at the beginning of June my mum became unwell and myself and LG moved in to care for her. Routine went totally out the window which I have major mum guilt for but I had to make sure my mum was ok.
My mum died at the beginning of August and we are now back home. We have been trying to put LG in her cot to get used to it and have been trying to let her have naps there too but she will scream. We no longer have the cot at the side of the bed as she had outgrown it so struggling majorly and feel like I’m failing as a mum now.
Please can anyone offer some advice on how to go about getting her to settle in her cot. Self soothing does not exist as she will scream as though she is being murdered 😫

No advise but sorry for your loss xx

I'm so sorry for your loss, my son actually sleeps quite well in his own room and cot and mostly always has so I dont have any sure advice that will work but i can give some suggestions? I give him a dummy and a muslin to mess around with and the muslin seems to really comfort and sooth him, I would maybe try different safe to sleep with objects and see if any of them help sooth your little girl? If you're not doing so already maybe a white noise machine that plays different noises or just some soft soothing music, it can take a while to find the right white noise on the machine but it could help, I really do hope you can find something that helps though, you need your rest and wind down time too, especially after what you've been through ❤

thank you, that is so kind. Hard to have time to yourself when your almost 11 month old is in to everything 🤣 we used white noise in the past but you’re right, there are a lot of different types. She just wants to stand and scream and it’s heartbreaking 💔

You're doing the best you can and that's all that anyone can ask for, just keep trying different things until you can find something that sticks and works for you and your little girl, it'll be difficult but I promise you will be there in no time ❤

Afraid I have no experienced advice as I’m still cuddling my little one to sleep! However a friend with a sleep consultant said that timing is key - not overtired, ideally tired but still happy so they can kick around a bit and get used to the cot and eventually fall asleep…. 🤷♀️ comfort object and white noise may help, and room as dark as you can make it. Wind down in that room as part of bedtime routine e.g milk and story in there.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I understand the mum guilt but from my perspective it has absolutely no place - gosh you have been through so so much with caring and looking after a baby, not many could do it, so remember you truly truly are a super mamma!! 🙌 all babies get there in the end, and remember to always do what feels right for you. Best of luck 😊

V sorry for your loss xx I don’t know if this is of any help but we have sidecar-ed a cot-bed (google it) - basically take the side off the cot and put it next to your bed, as I’ve given up on the separate room!

Sorry for your loss💙
Do you have room in your room to put the big cot up? Or maybe a travel cot? Try and transition slowly and get her used to sleeping in the cot but still close to you?

So sorry for your loss. Beautiful photo ❤️💔

Thank you for being so kind everyone. I know we will get there, it just seems impossible at the moment. Unfortunately our room isn’t big enough for her cot. We can get her into the cot for a while at the start of the night (usually about 10pm 🫣) and she will be there for a few hours but will wake in the night and then could be asleep in your arms but will sense you putting her into the cot and kick off. My mum always said I was a terrible sleeper so it must be karma!

I'm so sorry for ur loss. Big hugs, here u want a chat.
My son sounds the exact same as Ur lil one. My boy had an accident and just wanted us all the time, which in turn has affected his sleeping.
I still cuddle to sleep, but have white noise on to help him. If I don't cuddle him he screams the flat down as soon as I pick him up eyes are shut, put him down screaming. My HV said to have a look at these training things but my boy is constantly standing in his cot, but one may work for u:
Gradual retreat
Pick up, put down
The kissing game
Rapid return
Control check
I hope one of those helps. Xxx

oh thank you so much! I will look into them asap! Xxx

I'm so sorry for your loss 🤍
My daughter has always been a decent sleeper but hit a bad regression around the 12 month mark. We introduced a stuffed toy at this time (I'd start with something small and light with her being younger than 12 months!) I would hold her and let her cuddle, then eventually hand her the toy to cuddle before putting her down in her crib - awake. I'd always make sure she knew I was leaving (ie. Don't sneak out) and would come in as many times as she needed me to comfort her (at 5, 10, 15 min increments)

I'm so sorry for your loss you are doing absolutely amazing your LG will be so proud of you when she's older. What a special photo thank you for sharing❤️
We've had some tough times with sleep so these would be my top tips sorry to repeat some previous ones
*white noise
*blackout everything we have blinds and curtains!
*a comforter that's only for bedtime, dummy/toy
*sleeping bags
*a lullaby that you sing every nap time and bed time ideally the same one that she'll then associate with sleep (ours is you are my sunshine)
We also did something which I think is called habit stacking which seems counter intuitive at first but made sense to us. So if you're rocking to sleep you add more sleep associations e.g. Lullaby, patting bum, white noise, stroking face etc. Then you can start taking them away one by one so putting her down in her cot but still singing, patting, stroking face until she falls asleep then decrease them as she gets more used to falling asleep in her cot.

wow these are fab suggestions! I will def give them a go! It seems so obvious when someone else says it but I think my heads just all over the place that it’s not computing properly 🫣😂
