I've just discovered that my guy likes waffles, but ideally, I would like to offer him something more nutrious.
So far, he's tried eggos, and I am open to diy or any other brand that might be better for him.
If anyone has brand recommendations or diy that they are willing to share, that would be great. Also, for diy can I freeze these after cooking, and about how long can they stay in the freezer?

Not waffles, but very similar and no special iron required! I make my kiddos pancakes all the time. My 9 month old LOVES them. It's actually one of the first things she enjoyed feeding herself (blw didn't happen bc of digestive/reflux issues)
To make them more nutritious, I mash up a bunch of fruit then add a just-add-water mix, then add whatever water I need to get the right consistency... There's no recipe as it depends entirely on how watery the fruit you added is, but pancakes have a pretty wide tolerance for thickness of the mix!
I do this often with my overripe bananas as a base. I cut chunks of other fruit like blueberries, strawberries, cherries and add them as well. Toss them straight in the mix!
If you want to use harder fruit like apples or pears, etc, you'd just need to cook first. You can also use containers of apple sauce for a quick and easy alternative! I've also done more savory ones with cooked veggies and cheese, but the fruit ones are much easier. 😅

I cook a big batch, then put several in the fridge (they stay about a week). Then freeze the rest. In a ziplock they'd probably be good for several months, mine just don't last that long!
To serve, I just pop them in the toaster!

Awesome, thank you for the tips ladies!

I did a banana oat flour and egg pancake recipe that I think could be done in a waffle iron too. If you google banana waffles baby or oat waffles baby, there's a lot of pretty simple recipes. I just put everything into a blender and then I have batter ready.

So I diy'ed my own waffles and basically added:
- flour
- oatmeal (since it has iron in the baby oatmeal mix)
- mashed banana
- blueberries
- minced veggies (she hates veggies otherwise), the fruit flavors usually cover it
- nut butter
- egg
I call it the allergen maintenance pancake. It has everything so I can give it to her a few times a week, vary up the additions or flavors etc
I freeze maybe 1-2 weeks worth at a time but they can prob be in there for several months

Oh I forgot, 1 tsp of baking powder

And milk or water to get the right consistency

Thanks for the ideas, ladies! I just made my first batch of frozen pancakes (since I don't have a waffle maker). Baby tested and liked it :)
