The Gentle Potty Training book by Sarah Ockwell Smith is great. It gives you a scientific understanding of the processes involved and ways to spot both physical and emotional readiness.
Potty training pants were never worth it to us. They kind of need to experience being wet to start understanding they can't go wherever they're standing anymore.
My main tip is be sure they're ready, and have patience. They all get there eventually.

I potty trained mine in the summer and kept them outside in my yard as much as I could 😂 it made cleaning up after them easier when they had accidents

same. The underwear didn’t work .. a long shirt and a potty outside and being really attentive worked. They usually recommend a boot camp of 3 dedicated days where you are potty training from morning till bedtime and someone is watching them 24/7 and shuttling them to the potty everytime. Cook meals in advance, have plenty of fluids available and even special ones to keep them drinking and peeing often. We also watched this awesome video on YouTube that really helped and we had the mantra potty power.. so he felt empowered by going himself. We treated it as a right of passage we did not do the whole treat and reward system thing. The boot camp helped and then afterward it’s just integration into everyday life and that can take some time for you and your child.. just be patient and know that it will happen in time. Also there are great books in the library.. George uses the potty or something like that, we have a Daniel Tiger potty book, old school mr rogers book,a Montessori 1

This is some excellent information for successful toilet learning:

As for night dryness, this is hormone indicated as opposed to behavioural, so there's limited effectiveness from "training". This is entirely dependent on your child's body, and when their brain decides to activate the hormone required to reduce urine production, and wake them up for toileting. This can happen up to age 5.

We used the Oh Crap potty training book. I'm not sure what training pants are but we just used regular fabric ones once we started potty training at 2.5-3 years old. Well, we worked up to pants. First it was naked from the waist down; then just trousers then eventually pants and trousers. Initially he got confused because pants felt a bit too much like a nappy.

Wait until they are around 2.5 to 3 years old and then go straight to regular underwear.
