Low lieing placenta at 20 week scan

Had my scan on wed, everything went well accept them saying my placenta was to close to my cervix and I'd need to go back for another scan at 32 weeks, my question is if is doesn't move does that stop a natural delivery ?? As I really wanted a home birth and just now dreading going into hospital and being told I have to a a ceaseran. Will they make a plan before due date?? This is my 3rd and had 2 really easy quick births, it's making me anxious. Thankyou x

I was told this at my 20 week scan. It is called placenta previa. I also have a rescan at 30 weeks too. They say 90% of the time the placenta moves by the next scan so you do have hope that it will and you will be able to continue your birth plans. Try not to stress though, i know its hard .. there is nothing you can do unfortunately until next scan. Just take it easy to avoid any further complications xx

I was told the same yesterday, they couldn't book my scan until closer to 35 weeks though... hopefully they all move šŸ¤žšŸ»

Mines low lying in this pregnancy too, as above, it should move. If it doesn’t, it can prevent a vaginal birth depending on just how low it is. They’ll check at a rescan and all should be fine, and if not, they will make a plan for delivering baby. Hopefully you can have your home birth!

I was told this at my 20 weeks scan and she said 80% of the time it does move. But if it doesn’t then they can help you make a plan about what’s going to happen x

I found out I have a lower lying placenta yesterday too, I was told it needs to be 2cm away from your cervix opening for them to feel comfortable to allow a natural birth, otherwise you risk the chance of giving birth to the placenta first, mines currently 1.4cm. I was am being rescanned at 32 weeks to see if it has moved up as my womb stretches, if not I was told I would be rescanned again at around 34-36 weeks and if it’s not in the correct position by then I would need a scheduled c-section before 39 weeks as they can’t risk me going into labour naturally beforehand. FYI I was also told no sex whilst we wait to see if the placenta has moved up as it could risk placental abruption due to the proximity to the cervix. I would speak to your midwife if you are unsure of anything 😊 xXx

Oh I was also told that 9 out of 10 women’s placentas have moved up enough by their rescan, so you will most likely be able to have the home birth you would like 😊 I’m am just going to work on a birth plan for each option just in case xXx

I’ve been told the same. Has anyone been told of any precautions to take? I was doing my research and I’ve read you need to have complete rest and avoid sex etc due to the risk of heomarrage?

Avatar

You don’t need complete rest unless your doctor has specifically advised it- in most pregnancy research papers it’s been found to not really change anything for most pregnancy related conditions.
I’m on pelvic rest (no sex) but I have been for other reasons before I found out that my placenta is currently less than 10mm from my cervix.
If you weren’t given any advice when it was found, then I would double check with your midwife.

Thankyou for all this advice and info. Just a worry as I had it all planned in my head for another easy pregnancy. Will defently speak to midwife as soon as i can and see what advice she gives. X

@Sibs mine is 11mm from cervix and I was told no sexual intercourse or even masturbation until after rescan. I was given a leaflet explaining placenta previa (low lying placenta) which mentioned it too. If you were not told to worry then I wouldn't at this point. Maybe just try to limit sexual activity if you can until next scan x

As I say my pelvic rest advice was given long before I knew about my placenta position. If you haven’t been told I wouldn’t worry, and just do as you’ve planned and double check at your next antenatal appointment.

Help

I was getting pretty painful period cramps and during those, I had painful lower back cramps. I had these on and off for like a few hours so from about 10:30pm to 1am?

I’ve had no show, or anything like that.

Is this braxton hicks or early labour pains?

Little girl turning herself sideways in next to me

My little girl tonight, has spun herself so she is lying sideways in her next to me, making me panic!

Is this normal at 4.5 months, do I just lie her back normally/vertically?

Labour??

I’ve had on/off mild period cramps since 9 last night, very irregular and very mild, but I just had one that woke me up. My waters haven’t gone and nor has my mucous plug… but could this be a sign that it’s close?! I’m 40+3 and desperate to meet her!

Caffeine addiction suuucks. (Coffee)

I'm off of literally everything. Don't smoke, no medicine, don't drink except VERY rare occasion, nothing. I drink a large coffee everyday (usually mcdonalds or 7 brew)... or a couple cups of coffee at home if I don't get out. Today I had neither and I was OUT FOR THE COUNT. Awful headache, no motivation, throwing up. Then I drink coffee and it's instantly better. šŸ™ƒ coffee is one hell of a drug I tell ya.

Early waters/pre term labour?

I can’t get checked until later today unfortunately. I can’t tell if I’m leaking/starting early. I definitely think I’m having braxton hicks yesterday and today.. i have some pain in my back but she is quite low down so hoping it’s just pressure, baby was a little quieter yesterday but she’s back to more normal movements today, but my underwear just seems to get so wet, especially after going to the bathroom. And I honestly can’t work out the smell, I’m pretty sure it’s just discharge/urine leaking but there’s that worry in my mind a little. Are there any other ways to know/check if it could be the start of it all?
