Hi guys, can I first off say I’m not looking for responses like “just tell them, he’s your son” I’m looking for a nice kind hearted way to explain to a family member that I do not want her kissing my son on the mouth, mainly because I don’t want him to think it’s ok to kiss adults on the mouth. I don’t mind myself or my child’s father, but this family member is always asking my 21 month old for a kiss, even if he points his head twords her she will say “no no” and point to her mouth. I have said things like “yeah he only gives his mammy and daddy kisses” or “he’s only aloud kiss his mammy, anyone else can kiss him on the head if he’s ok with it” but she not getting the hint. She even tried today while she has a cold. How do I say it to her?

It seems like you’ve said it in a kind and respectful way and this person isn’t responding anyway. My daughter is also 21 months old and we also do not allow anyone to kiss her on the mouth for same reason.
I don’t personally have a struggle with this since family members live too far to visit, but I would recommend sitting down with this person and having the whole conversation.
Instead of a small correction in the moment with the child around, I would ask to talk to them and fully discuss i, explain your family decided to not allow anyone but you and the father to kiss her mouth.
I would hope that’s all it would take, but I personally feel like you shouldn’t need to justify your choice and give a reason this person would accept just so they are ok with the rule. I hope since you are close that just telling them you’ve decided to not do it would be enough.
If that doesn’t work you may need to hold the boundary more firmly.

Agree with comments above. Just explain that you are trying to teach your kid that certain affection gestures are not ok between children and adults, and while you know she means well others might not mean well, so it’s important to not send mixed signals to the child.
Thank you everyone
