My partner is constantly on his phone and it’s driving me crazy. We will literally sit at the table eating dinner and he will be on his phone. I find it so annoying and rude tbh when I’ve just made him a meal and we all sit down together. Sometimes he will be scrolling through social media and sometimes he will be playing a video out loud. I have spoke to him about how it bothers me and he says because he works all day “it’s the only chance I get to go on my phone”. He sits on the toilet for an hour on his phone when he gets in from work (another thing that annoys me!!). Anyone else got a partner similar and also how can I get through to him as he doesn’t understand why it annoys me and I’m getting sick of it tbh

Stop cooking dinner for him in favour of being on your own phone and see if it helps him to understand a bit better

My partner is the same! It bothers me sometimes and if I'm annoyed ill tell him to keep his phone down and he does listen at that point.

but he doesn’t stop going to work? He does his job then goes on his phone

I believe you should do a compromise. Me and hubby have been married for 4 years this month. We had multiple arguments about the same subject. It’s annoying as hell I know. So after years of me being angry, I decided to change my ways. So what I would do is ofc he comes home and straight to the toilet and sits for about an hour. I just do my own thing like finish preparing dinner, maybe put on make up for him or just finish cleaning. Then once he’s out and we’re at dinner. I know he likes to eat without talking. So we ended up finding a series to watch together every day at dinner time. Once we finish dinner, he stops it when seeing me get up to clear the table and he helps as well (even though I never ask him for help because he works as a builder and he’s tired as it is). Then we sit together maybe finish the episode and I tell him “ooh im getting bored now let’s watch later” and that’s when he sits on his phone and that’s okay, I go on mine and after a while maybe I see something…

I want to share with him so he’s got this habit of not paying attention but acting like he does so I doing playfully telling him I want his attention when I’m talking and I just click the button on his phone to turn it off. He puts his phone to the side and listens to me and engages nicely. After a while of doing that, I started asking of him at least an hour or so of his time to me, without tv nor phone or nothing. And he agreed, yes that’s not down every day but he’s been way better and we’re just happier together now. It’s all about understanding the reason behind it and understanding that they work and are tired as well and just want some time alone to themselves. Nice words and love are what will make him understand, frustration and anger never will. And I’m saying this from experience

I was being a touch facetious.
But for the record, at no point did she suggest that she doesn’t work also. Women often work too. She shouldn’t have to also work for his attention at the dinner table nightly. That’s not acceptable.
But my comment above? I was being rather flippant 🙂
