First cervix check

Expect your OB’s hand to go deep and to give you a dialation number. I didn’t feel any pain after that. If they do a membrane sweep I did feel crampy…

Go in there with no expectations of being dilated. I was never more than 1 at most. I was induced at 40 weeks and not dilated I was hardly at 1 and I remember being so disappointed that I wasn’t dilated at all.

You really don’t need it , and can ask for them not to. It won’t tell you anything… meaning, you can be “2 cm dilated “ for example, and go to 41 weeks like that. It doesn’t indicate labor is on its way… it can be painful… and can cause infection or even induce labor. I’d do some research or even ask your doctor some questions and see why at their response is.

It was uncomfortable, but that was it.

what if it tells you you’re 7cm dilated but you have few light contractions which you mistake for Braxton Hicks? Can that be a sign of labor? I think at that point they might want to delay labor, no? To give baby more time inside?

When I went in at 35 weeks they said they wouldn’t try to prevent the baby from coming anymore

obviously if you’re 7cm it’s a different ball game. Not sure if you’re being sarcastic…. But cervical checks aren’t necessary ( unless there’s indication for pre-term labor)…

not being sarcastic. Genuine question - if there are no other symptoms of pre-term labor (as mentioned above, contractions might not exist or they might be mistaken for Braxton Hicks) then a cervical check would be the only way to tell, right?

oh, that’s good to know. I guess it depends on the OB - I read the opposite on a few other posts in this group.

then there’s absolutely no need for it. Cervical check doesn’t tell you you’re in labor. As I mentioned above, you can be dilated for a month, and not in labor. Now if you are at 7 and have no pain, GOD BLESS YOU!

Well I was 50% effaced and 1cm dilated!
