So my husband called me 45 minutes before my shift finished and asked me to come home because our daughter was acting very strangely.
This has never happened before and my husband isn’t one to complain unnecessarily so I left work.
When I got home she was thrashing and writhing around all over the place screaming and screeching as if she was in pain.
The sofa was in the middle of the lounge because she had somehow wriggled her way underneath it while this extreme meltdown was happening so husband had to take it apart to get her out. All while shes thrashing, screaming and hurting herself constantly.
She was hitting me and pushing me away yet wanted to be held but not with my hands etc etc. just a lot of craziness over a 90 minute period.
Husband went to the shop to buy some ice lollies to try cool her down and when he was pulling in to the drive i said "daddy's home" and she shouted "LOLLIES". It was as if a switch had been flicked and she was then absolutely fine.
My mother-in-law, who has a medical background, came round to see if she could help at all, in the middle of her dinner she dropped everything and travelled 10 miles to our house and when she got here, daughter was happy as Larry eating an ice lolly. It was the most tiring 90 minutes of her entire life for all of us and I still don’t know what was wrong or what happened.
Is this the “terrible twos”?
Was she just testing us and got herself worked up?
She went from the most unhappy child to ecstatic in seconds.
Genuinely we thought we might have to ring an ambulance to come check her over because we couldn’t get her calm enough to go in the car to take her to A&E even if we wanted to.
If anyone can help my brain or give me some insight in to what may have happened tonight that would be great, because I’ve no clue and I don’t have any Prosecco in to help!

Sounds like my last 2 weeks 🙃. It’s really scary to watch sometimes, isn’t it? Doesn’t want to be held, but needs affection, could simply ask for something, I give it to her and she has a tantrum. Screaming, crying, hitting herself, rolling on the floor, it’s CRAZY!
A few nights ago she wanted to go back downstairs after refusing to sleep, I said to her I will stay up here as mummy is tired. She went down with her Dad and I can’t actually tell you how quickly hell broke LOOSE! Just because I didn’t go down with her.
It’s definitely all apart of their development and seems to be very normal. In these moments all we can do is offer is love, and wait for it to pass. I tell my little girl to try and use her words. As stressful and overwhelming it is, they must feel so confused and angry! But hang in there, you’re definitely not alone xx

It sounds like a tantrum where she can communicate what she wants.
I'm sorry this has happened. Archie has tantrums but they don't last that long. I tend to ignore him as he throws himself on the floor

My first had tantrums that would last 10 mins max. So when my second came along and started having tantrums exactly how you described, it was a massive shock to me too 😂
Every child is different and unfortunately this is normal for some 😂

So basically…this is life now. 😂
It was as if she was possessed, a completely different child. Bizarre.
Thank you all. I’m exhausted today. Fingers, toes and tits crossed this isn’t a regular occurrence 🤞

Definitely happens when they are unable to communicate what they want or how they are feeling also with my daughter they seem to be this extreme when she's either hungry or tired aswell and then the only way I can calm her down is a bottle of milk and just taken up to her room but yup it's not easy and very distressing to watch , I've had 2 in public while I wasn't with my partner and it was so emotionally draining I felt a bit traumatised after she had calmed down I wanted to cry myself

My nephew used to scream for a 1 and half and nothing would calm him down, if you even spoke it made things worse …. In the end we would just have to sit quietly with him till he was done, then offer a cuddle, his screams were ear piercing and our family dog would piss because she was stressed….was horrible but it doesn’t last forever 💕 now he so chilled xx

Mines just started doing these tantrums, I can't touch her hold her or speak to her as she gers worse and really hurts herself.
We've literally just had a tantrum and now she's fine watching the rain like nothing happened whilst I just feel like crying 🤦🏼♀️

That sounds like how my daughter has been during a night terror (not a nightmare). I'm not sure if she'd just woken before this happened or not but if she did, might be worth looking into. Although, with my daughter, the longest night terror episode she's had was about 20 mins.

We’ve had this for a while now! Horrendous isn’t it! Something that I tried after about 30 minutes of screaming, thrashing and all what you said was scooping her up and literally pinning her to me so she couldn’t hit me and just repeatedly saying ‘mummy is here, I’ve got you’ over and over again and within about a minute and a half she was calm enough to try and communicate what she wanted. It may not work for you next time but something to try I guess.
At this age like others have said it’s usually because they are struggling to communicate something with you but just by reassuring you hear them and you’re there can sometimes be enough to defuse the situation to try again xx

Also I've found sitting with her on the floor holding tight in my arms and singing really calms her down
