Anyone help with MAT B1 payment? I’m on universal credit and was told to upload my MAT B1 to my journal and thought it had all been processed.. but I’ve tried to chase it up today and still very confused.. (Pregnancy brain)

I have not received any payment, I thought you would get it to help prepare for baby.. everything I’ve read said 11 weeks before baby but after endless calls with universal credit they have re-directed me to maternity allowance who told me that it was wrong and I have to use one of their forms and send the mat b1 off to them.. I’ve then spoken to my work coach who is saying I’ll only get the payment after baby is here… PLEASE HELP 7 weeks to go!!

Maternity allowance and universal credit are separate benefits. You need to print off a maternity allowance application and send it off along with your MatB1 form and your SMP1 form x

Matb1 payment isn’t a thing.
You either get SMP or MA, your matb1 is a certificate to basically prove you’re pregnant. You either give it to your employer to receive SMP or send it off with your MA application form.
Universal credit has nothing to do with either.

So what payment exactly is it you’re trying to get?

firstly, you’ll need to give your manager your matB1 form. they will then give the matB1 back, as well as an SMP1 form telling you that you are either:
- entitled to being paid maternity pay by your employer
- not entitled and therefore need to apply for maternity allowance.
if they say you are not entitled, you then need to download and print the maternity allowance application form. if you cannot print it, you can request to have these forms sent to you - they will also include an envelope for you to put the completed documents in to send to them. once you fill out the form, make sure you include your SMP1 form, MatB1 form and whatever other documents it specifies you’ll need to include. once you send this in the post, anticipate it taking around 5 weeks to process and then you’ll start receiving payments if you are accepted.
maternity allowance will cancel out universal credit, so you will not get the two payments on top of eachother, MA will be taken off UC payments.

Hey the maternity allowance is completely separate to universal credit , you need to print this form out https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/maternity-allowance-claim-form , and then fill in sections that apply to you and then take the part for your midwife to fill out which is at the back , and then send it in the post xx

You will then we awarded 500£ 11 weeks before babys due date and you will get your payment once confirmed near the date of your next uc claim …. I hope this helps x

You can have it 11 weeks after baby’s born aswell up to you

Avatar

the £500 is the sure start maternity grant. That’s nothing to do with either SMP or MA

Does MA send back your original MATB1 form ?

I never got mine back

You can't claim both either. Its either UC OR MA

Avatar

I think you can claim both, but UC will deduct MA £ for £ so you’d be no better off.

that's it! I knew there was something lol

Mama needs new friends ✨

Hey mamas 🤍 I'm going to be honest — I'm at a season in my life where I'm craving real, genuine friendship. The kind where we actually check on each other. Where conversations go both ways. Where we can laugh, vent, cry, and just *be* without it feeling one-sided.

I'm a stay at home mom of 6 (yes, 6! 👏🏼) and my days are full but my cup feels a little empty in the friendship department. I'm looking for women who get it — the chaos, the beauty, the exhaustion, all of it.

If you're a mom who values deep, reciprocal friendship and you're also out here looking for your people — drop a 👋 below. Let's actually get to know each other. 🤍

Leaving your baby

Has anyone else not left their baby to be looked after by someone else (not dad) yet? I still don't feel ready but am being told I should be by now

Random but when you use a vibrator do you need to hold your lips open for it to touch the bean ?

It gets annoying because even if I open my legs I still need to hold the lips open to touch the bean and I have to do it the entire time my lips are literally sealed closed 🤣
