Any nappy time tips for wriggly babies?

Our cheeky chappie is getting up to all sorts of mischief nowadays but my absolute bugbear is that he turns into a writhing demon whenever I try to change his nappy, it's getting ridiculous now!! Anyone managed to tame their unwieldy baby for nappy changes and has any tips? We use a changing table because I struggled changing him on the floor initially and it hasn't made a difference whether he is on the table or the floor he still flips straight over as soon as the nappy comes off and it's getting close to disaster 💩💩💩

Hey! 😊 we switched to nappy pants about 2 months ago and it’s massively improved! I now sit him on my knee (once he’s clean!) and get one leg in and stand him up if he’s too wriggly! We’ve had a couple of near misses but overall a much better experience than nappies 😂 occasionally I’ve had to put the second nappy pant on one of his legs before the old ones comes off because he won’t sit still, that works too when we have no other option 😂

Failing that 5 mins of miss Rachel usually calms him down enough to avoid wrestling (we’ve pretty much stopped any tv unless we need him to remain still so he doesn’t lose interest 😂😂😂)

Nappy pants 100% but even that doesn't stop the wriggles...mine is a nightmare too and I try and distract him with new random objects ( just for nappy changing) can't say it helps all the time and some times it's just shit...it just is what it is. He's wee'd on his grandparents bedroom floor once and I was mortified. I try and sing to distract him but he never sits still for me. He's better with his dad so I let him do them when he's there. Did one out today and it was OK but wasn't easy. Thankfully he only poos once a day....although we had 3 today! Babies are just a barrel of laughs lol 😆

I used nappy pants and let him crawl off whinnie the Pooh’ing it let him stand at the baby gate and then do one legs in at a time 😂

I have a random pile of things that are not his toys and I give him new thing (rotate) to explore while I quickly change him. Nappy pants too to have a quick finish as I stand him up, helped too x

Standing nappy changes are what works here. I use a box of toys or books and he has a rummage while I do the change. A few spare towels to hopefully catch any wee anyone over my lap to protect my clothes. Quite often end up laying him over my lap once he's clean to get nappy pants on.

I are with nappy pants! It’s the only way 😂 my son screams murder during nappy changes but this makes it a bit easier!

Avatar

oh nappy pants I thought he yank them down so I'd been avoiding them but I might give them a go then, he's actually in size 6 nappies now and local Tesco doesn't even stock size 6 tape nappies only the nappy pants so that would actually help us out!!

Avatar

I've got a couple of toys by his table but might try rotating them a bit as well, sometimes he just throws them straight over the side and tries to climb after them argh 😂 thanks for the tip!!

Avatar

I give LO a sealed bag of nappy bags or wipes she likes the packet helps a little bit but we’re now on the floor as just to dangerous with her on the table which would be better for my back

Avatar

Wow everyone's using nappy pants so I will be going straight out tomorrow to purchase some and give them a try, thank you all for the tips!! I feel useless because my partner helps me change him and we still end up wrestling him kicking and screaming arghh! Can't believe how strong he is already haha 😁 we've been using our phones sometimes to show him videos of himself that he likes but I don't keep my phone on me so it's not a guaranteed winner. Think a basket of random items that aren't his toys might also be worth organising to go under the changing table!!

We currently make different animal noises which makes Harrison laugh, but I know it won't last long til I need to find a new distraction. Generally also go with giving him something to hold that isn't a toy. Not moved to nappy pants yet but he's still in size 4 and last time I tried the size 4 nappy pants they seemed too loose around his legs, might be better now though!

Avatar

unrelated but where did you get the soft play things he’s on!!

Avatar

Freddie loves it when Lap says disgusting or nappy at the moment, he just keeps repeating it and Freddie laughs so hard he pooped in the bath two nights in a row 😂 we do it when changing him but it only works up until the new nappy appears and then he's flipping away again 🙄 So annoying

Avatar

it's from Kiddie Moon - they do a full set with a ball pit and 4 soft obstacles but we initially just wanted something for him to climb on when he started pulling himself up. He wasn't interested back then but he loves them now, he just stands up and leans on them pushing them all round the room but now that's just creating additional babyproofing we need to do 😂 also likes to play peekaboo from behind them 😊

100000% pull ups!

Avatar

I don’t have this issue but my friend does and she swears by stick on fidget spinner toys by the changing table! I have them saved in my Amazon basket just in case 🤣

Avatar

I have a box of things that my twins ‘aren’t allowed’ to hold while having a nappy change (tv remote, torch, keys - nothing dangerous just stuff they don’t normally get their hands on) and that helps, not every time but we do what we can! 🤣

Avatar

I normally give my son something to chew safely whatever it is otherwise we’re having a wwe match 😂😂😂 I even sacrifice my hair I let him pull it sometimes if I’m desperate 😩😩😂 x

Avatar

@Becky haha its crazy the things that make them laugh isn't it, Harrison loves when I make animal noises. If I give him something to play with he generally grabs it and flips over to play with it 😂 and if I give him wipes he rips the plastic seal off and tries to eat wipes. Monster.

Hour night wakes and 5am get up

Can anyone shed some light as to why on earth my child doesn’t want to sleep??? My eyeballs are bleeding!!

Never been a good sleeper, but the problems always changing. He’s nearly 9 months old.

Beginning of the month he dropped to 2 naps. We could put him to bed at 7pm and he’d get up for the day at 6am, with multiple wake ups every 2/3 hours.

Now we put him down at 7pm, he can do a good 4/5 hour stretch, but come 1/2am he’s up every hour then getting up for the day at 5am. This then completely messes up the day because I can’t keep him awake long enough to even get to 7pm, let alone later.

He has 2 naps, roughly about 1hr10 each but it changed based on when he wakes and trying to get him to a reasonable bed time.

What could be the reason for this? 6am is fine, but 5am is not 😩😩

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Help meeee

!!All advice welcome!! My 5 month old (nearly 6mo) is just not sleeping . Not for naps and not at night . She can’t connect her cycles . We started sleep regression at 3 months but in like how is this nearly been going on for a further 3 months . Like surely not . She has 10 min naps in crib ( which take so much effort ) and maybe 20/30 min naps in my arms/pushchair . She wakes minimum every hour at night with guaranteed false start 20 mins in . I combo feed. I breastfeed her until almost asleep then place her in the next to me crib give her the pacifier and put my hand on her cheek/face for 20 seconds and she drifts off . It’s not really getting her to sleep that’s the issue it’s she just won’t stay asleep . She doesn’t even need to feed much at night usually 1-2 breastfeeds . The rest is comfort wakes needing her pacifier or my hand on her cheek . I’ve looked into sleep associations and independent sleep and I broke the feed to sleep association and rocking and do bedside comforting instead for most wakes which has now lead to my hand being a sleep association on her face . I’m just so exhausted my husband is working mon-fri 9-9 and it’s just me . I haven’t had more than 4 hours in a row since her birth . I can’t get anything done during the day . She is so clingy and cries if I leave room /put her down etc. I love her so much but we both need rest . If anyone has any tips or a routine that could help PLEASE tell me I’ll try anything 🥲❤️❤️

Feeds

How many times a night are your little ones getting up? My daughter is every 90-110 minutes. I am absolutely exhausted and don’t know how much more I can cope

Over supply of milk

I am nearly 5weeks postpartum and I have such a big over supply of BM.
Has anyone donated / sold their supply, if so where do you recommend for this?

I think its fair

Me and my partner agreed to sleep in 1 day of the weekend.
He doesn't find it fair to look after both kids (my 4 year old isnt his) while i sleep so he looks after the baby while i sleep and my toddlers at his dads and ill look after both the next day.
Straightaway it was pretty unfair as i let him sleep in until he wakes up 10-12
He wakes me up when baby starts fussing because he wants milk (doesnt need it)
I cant pump as i dont supply enough.
So i get woken at 9/9:30 to feed baby then i get him sleep then theres no point sleeping in as my toddlers being dropped off.
I also find it unfair that i get both kids to sleep most night, i get my toddler to sleep everyday hes home (4/5days) and i get my baby to sleep most nights with the exception of maybe twice a month as his dad struggless then about 95% of his thru the day naps.
I have also been unwell for a few months (tumor scare) and am waiting 18 weeks to see a specialist so im obviously petrified for that, so unbelievably tired and alot of aches and pains, specifically these pounding headaches ive been having.
After i had been up til 11:30 getting both kids to sleep lastnight and my partner falling asleep at 10 then him ignoring the baby cries all morning until my toddler woke up im fed up slammed to door and rold him not to expect to sleep in unless he gets the baby to sleep the night b4.
I keep having issues with him not feeling the wet from baby being sick or weeing himself or being able to smell it do about 98% of the time hes given to me i have to clean him up n change him.
Including at night, we agreed my partner would change nappies (1 a night at 5am) while i feed (2,4,5,6:30) but every night when i get him hes pissed through and my partner gets annoyed when i wake him up n moan about it.
Then the morning after hes annoyed at how much washing there is (thats his job) and moans about how often i change myself (baby constantly shits thru and sicks on me) and baby
Honestly im just so tired all the time
