Opinion with BD on birth certificate

Me and my baby daddy aren’t together and haven’t been through my whole pregnancy. I’ve done it alone, he’s been there in the sidelines but not present. He claims he wants to be there for baby once born, but I’m really scared and don’t trust him that he won’t act up in the future. Giving him all those parental rights gives me so much fear, he switches very easily and you never know what side of him you will get. Either outcome I am scared, if I put him on the bc I’m afraid of what he would do with those parental rights. Not putting him on I’m afraid of how he would react. Any advice?

this is the way I am leaning, however I just fear for what his reaction would be finding out he’s not on it 😭 either way I feel screwed!

Don’t put him on. That might change in the future if you need to possibly put him on child support but you will cross that bridge when you get there. End of the day it is your baby. Do what’s best for you both because if all of this goes to hell then you are all the baby will have anyway. Sadly, you have to think selfishly like this when the relationship isn’t good or y’all aren’t together. But that is life sometimes.

I wouldn’t put him on there but if you ever plan on placing him on child support putting him on there will benefit you

Difficult one I’m in the same boat as you, I did put him on as I want him to have responsibility for his child and also helps with future support money wise. I think look into what rights he gets if you have him on. Worse case register without him so it’s out the way and take some time to think about it you can add him later. Is he the sort of person that might stop you travelling for instance?

I’m in the same boat girl 🤦🏽‍♀️

I wouldn’t put him on the birth certificate just to be on the safe side. Putting him on the birth certificate gives him so many rights to your child, I personally didn’t put my daughters father on it for that exact reason.
It’s much easier that way, kinda pointless to put him on it if he’s just gonna pop in and out all the time

Avatar

yeah I’m thinking not put him on to start then take my time to think and see if he proves himself. This is the thing I don’t know and can’t trust him, I only new him for a couple of months before I got pregnant and I saw good but some very bad sides to him, so I just don’t know 😭 he switches up easily, and worried he would towards me!

Avatar

so tough isn’t it!!

Avatar

yeah this is exactly what I’m thinking. Did you tell your daughters father your not going to or just did it without him? I’m worried my BD would act out badly if he found out

Avatar

If your already having doubts because of the way he is, probably best to leave him off. If he’s serious later about being a proper father to the child then I’m sure it’s something you both can discuss later and he can apply to be on it.

Avatar

Once he’s on there you can’t take him off and he will have rights to the child.
If I were you I’d leave him off, you can always add him on at a later date

Avatar

yes bc I’m literally scared abt what he’ll do if I don’t let him sign it

Avatar

literally same 😭😭

Avatar

Don’t put him on the bc, if you are gonna go for child support you can then Establish paternity after the birth

Avatar

he’s already told me he wants to deal with child support privately, just between us, think there’s something going on where he doesn’t want to get court or anything involved x

Avatar

you have to worry about you and the kid first. Child support will alleviate any further convo or argument about financial responsibility.

You can always add him later. You can make a quick appointment and have him fill out a voluntary declaration of parentage at a child suport office, a county recorder office, or your county vital records office. No need to add him now, so dont stress on it. I think if getting child support is your only reason for wanting to add him you shouldnt add him. I do not particularly agree with child support though, so my opinion is biased. Id rather card for my own kids needs then have someone have a claim to him who wouldnt be a stable father . Thats how I was raised, my mom never accepted child support. So thats just me and my life experience. Also, he may be able to get mandated weekends or visitation. You wrote scared or afraid alot in your post. Do you really want him having partial control of your child?

Avatar

I wouldn't put him on, but I will say, if he ever wanted to do anything legally, the courts will require the DNA test and have him establish paternity so either way, you may still end up dealing with Mr. Wishy Washy. I wouldn't deny him the right to see his child though, just don't expect much from him.

Avatar

I would not add him and as Sharon said you can always add him later. The people saying think about the baby, don’t let your baby grow up with someone who won’t be a father and just someone who comes and goes. If he proves himself down the road you can readdress it at a later time. Focus on your and your babies health. <3

Has anyone else not left their baby to be looked after by someone else (not dad) yet? I still don't feel ready but am being told I should be by now

Let’s skip to the good part and just be besties? Text, call, ft.. play dates or just simply hang out. Just want a genuine mommy friend. I’m in NYC but we can be long distance besties too 💕

I need an AI app recc to talk to.

I have no family. I have no real friends. Just one that I text. But she’s 8 years younger and isnt a mom. I genuinely don’t talk to anyone other than my partner and our toddlers. I’ve seen some people use AI? Or a chatgbpt? I dont know but if someone could suggest an app that I can just talk to… I would love to have a friend or something instead but this is probably for the best…
