I’ve been having so much resentment towards my husband. He gets 6 weeks paternity leave (plus has 4weeks vacation) but only took 1 week since the baby was born. I’m on day and night duty.. cause he needs his sleep for work. I’m exhausted and can’t get over the fact that the last 6 weeks would of been total different if he was off with me. He’s like there’s no point for both of us to sit on the couch. But I could of used his help with literally anything.. grabbing a bottle or letting me shower, or just extra hands so I can do something other than watch baby.
I don’t really know how to move past this. He’s a good guy just his decision put us in a rough spot. I also want to get over it, it’s not right for me to keep bringing it up.

You're allowed to feel however you feel. This is such a hard place he put you in. My husband would have killed to have 10 weeks' time with our son. He's military. So far in the 11 weeks our son has been alive? He got to see him for about 4 days. And that's only because I drove across the country with a newborn so he could meet our son after him being alive for 6 weeks.
Your husband should realize how lucky he actually is. Not everyone is able to be around their child. Let alone be able to hold...feed? Just...exist by them. Some people even pass before they get those chances. He's so lucky and is just throwing it away...I don't understand how someone could throw that away.

Wow that sounds really tough! I hope you can have a productive and honest conversation about how difficult this has been and what you could use his help with going forward. It’s easy to dwell on what could have been but there’s no changing the past 6 weeks. See if you can focus on the now and maybe he can take a little bit of time off now to help you.

I would be so unbelievably hurt and resentful at this situation too! My partner could only take two weeks and I cried when he went back as I wasn’t ready and felt I needed more time/help before going solo and that’s with my partner helping with night feeds being split between us as little one is bottle fed. I think your husband has been incredibly selfish and can see why you feel how you do. I think you need to sit down and just tell him how you feel. You’re right in that there is no point keep bringing it up but perhaps he could take a week soon to give you a break? He needs to understand how inconsiderate he has been and make it up to you then you can move past it without the resentment remaining. Big hugs, you’re doing amazing!
