IUD

Did anyone get an IUD put in without the sedative to relax them first ? I don’t have anyone to help watch my baby afterwards so I’m considering not getting it and just dealing with the pain. How bad was it?? What’s it like ??

I didn't know that you'll get a sedative prior to the insertion.

My midwife didn't offer it. Just told me to take a Ibuprofen 800 1 hour before I come to the office and relax with a heating pad afterwards.

I cancelled my appointment though due to my anxiety.

It's honestly not that bad. I took some midal and then went about my day.

I think my OB just offered it to me because I was nervous about it. I don’t really want it but she seemed pretty persistent on ordering it anyways

Avatar

oh good, that makes me feel a lot better about it.

Yeah my bf babied me but that was only because I did it and didn't make him get a vasectomy. But it's minor cramping. During I did cry a little from pressure but not like I was about to die kinda pain

Yes - I had an IUD placed years before I got pregnant. They had to place it twice as it slipped the first time. It certainly pinched & brought a tear to my eye, but it wasn’t bad. I imagine childbirth is much harder😆

I bled/spotted for a few days after & just took it easy.

I didn't have a sedative and it hurt. I have a tilted uterus and it took twice as long to put it into place, she had to remove it and redo it. I had a lot of cramping and it was hard to drive myself home. It is pretty painful getting it inserted.

Once it's over it's like a bad period. I would just lay in bed and relax as much as you can with the baby.

I got mine inserted and removed without any type of sedative. They just told me to take Tylenol. I’ll never get another IUD because of how painful it was. That being said, I haven’t had any children and I’ve heard it’s less painful after kids? Idk. Even when it was in (for the 3 months I had it), I could always feel it inside me and didn’t like that.

I got one put in 8 weeks PP, and was super duper anxious leading up to it. The procedure was super quick, and the speculum was by far the most noticeable part, I didn’t even feel the measuring or inserting.

Avatar

I had one at my 8 week postpartum and was perfectly fine! The insertion was mildly uncomfortable, and I had cramps throughout the evening, but ibuprofen was all I needed!

Avatar

I took Tylenol about a half hour before and then took a nap when I got home wasn't too bad

Avatar

I got mine with no sedative at about 11 weeks pp. I honestly didn’t feel anything except I poke when my Dr was cutting the strings and poked me a bit. Other than that, we talked about what we were making for dinner through the whole procedure lol

Avatar

My was a complete spur of the moment decision so they manually dilated my cervix and everything. For me personally it was uncomfortable but wasn’t painful. They said I handled it like a champ because they have patients who have passed out from the insertion 😅 I would suggest just taking some ibuprofen about 30 minutes beforehand

Avatar

Eff that! I went under general by doctors orders, he didn’t want to do it in rooms as I didn’t deliver vaginally.
Was worth it too because I had undelivered material left over from my emergency caesarean

Avatar

I think it varies a lot by person. I've had three inserted without any meds and I didn't think it was much worse than a pap smear. But I know plenty of other folks have a really hard time. It might be good to take something for it if they offer it.

My only other option since I’m breastfeeding my 5 week old is the pill and I do not want anymore kids and I’ve never been good at taking the pill 😅😭 I don’t love the thought of the IUD but it’s all I get for the time being.

Family culture difference on money

Sorry this is long, I hope some of you get to the end and give advice!!!

So I’m a very thrifty person, things are tight at the moment, the cost of living crisis and my house is heated by oil so things are extortionate. We aren’t on the bread line but we aren’t flush, hubby might be made redundant so there is some financial pressure.

Sometimes I buy my sons something nicer, on the justification that I can sell it on after (♥️ vinted ♥️). I have also been planning on pretty much breaking even most of the baby things I bought from face book market place, side by crib, baby changing unit, etc.

Hubby and I have different money cultures with our families (he’s Indian, I’m British). I’m my family we don’t mix money, we would help each other out if someone was in trouble and will get each other gifts on special occasions. With hubby’s family money is much more fluid, they will give each other things worth thousands of £ just because.

Hubby’s brother bought him a new laptop and a new Google phone, he’s been very generous to hubby. Hubby hasn’t given the same back because brother is much richer.

Hubby and I mostly share finances. If it’s relevant I’m the higher earner.

Now to the point! My babies are so cute they’ve given hubby’s brother (currently single) baby rabies. He’s asked for our baby stuff when we’re done with it. He’s been so generous to hubby I feel really stingy saying no. But I’d never have bought some of the stuff if I wasn’t going to get a return on it - the thought makes me a bit anxious. If we gave all our baby stuff given the second hand value it still wouldn’t equal what the brother had given hubby.

I thought maybe I could give him some stuff but sell some stuff, but hubby said then his brother will just have to go out and buy that stuff, so I should name my price and ask his brother for the money. That makes me feel very uncomfortable, given how generous the brother has been to hubby.

So what do I do ladies? Give it all and suck it up? Give part of it and sell parts on Vinted/FB, or ask hubbys brother for money for it and be uncomfortable? Or do you see another solution?

No one is being entitled or rude here, just a culture difference I need to navigate.

Advice

Hi everyone! I honestly have 0 social queues when it comes to talking to anyone in general. I definitely have a hard time talking to other women and making new friends. I can 100% relate. I just don’t like the idea of texting or meeting up but when I do I’m like “oh this isn’t bad.” Any advice? I also have a hard time getting comfortable and just feeling judged by other women😅 I’m also 19 so maybe making a change in this now will help in the future making mom friends/friends in general. Thanks in advance!
