My mom and grandma both passed away about 4.5 years ago (only a few months apart) and my boyfriends mom passed away 1.5 years ago. My Dad is still around, but he has had strokes and has brain damage and can’t be the “normal grandpa and my boyfriend doesn’t have his dad in his life.
I am having such a hard time with the fact that my baby won’t get to know their grandparents. Is anyone else struggling with this? I’m not fully connected to my family. I still talk to my sister (but she’s super toxic), but only because of her kids. I want my baby to have a happy family and I’m scared that they won’t get to experience that. 😢 It’s been making me soo emotional lately and I don’t know how to comfort myself.

It’s not exactly the same situation, but my mom passed away a few weeks ago and I’m 5 months pregnant. She was both mother and father to me since she was a single parent. My father is somewhat trying to be in the picture now as I’m an adult, and my fiancé s parents want to be involved, but I can’t help but feel really resentful. Like time and moments were stolen from my mom and child. There’s nothing like being able to see your mom and baby bond, and probably no one I’d trust the same with my child. I try to remind myself that my mom will still see my baby and her milestones, just not in the same way we are humanely present. Your mom and grandma are your baby’s angels now.

Also, your baby can still experience a very happy family…it will be the one you and your boyfriend create for them. We are born into family, but we also create family in the form of life-long friendships and community.

My husbands mum passed away 5 years ago, and his dad is an alcoholic so he wont be in the babys life either. And neither of my parents are in my life. So my baby won't have any biological grandparents either. But I'm really close with my best friends parents so they will have honorary grandparents

My babies will never meet my dad since he passed a couple years back… but I do have a picture of him framed in my sons room and he takes it around all over the house and talks to it. My dad used to do block work so I find my son sometimes taking his building blocks and making stuff in front of his picture. Or he will bring it out of his room and set it next to me and leave. Its comforting for me and my child. Maybe you could try and see if it helps any and talk about your loved ones with them so it’s like they are involved in a spirit aspect.

I know how you feel I lost my mum 2009 still miss her so much I wish she was here to see baby! I still have my dad he's remarried but I don't feel right having this baby call her gran I feel that's disrespectful to my mum. so my baby won't have a gran either but I have my brother and his wife.
