We just recently hired a sitter to watch our son 4 nights in a row during the week. We discussed her rate and how she would accept her money (venmo, cash, all that). When we got home, she sent us her venmo and I asked if Fridays were a good day for her to get paid. She stated that how she has always done it by receiving her money after each visit. It doesn’t really feel like a secure sitter to me…This kind of caught us off guard, especially since we don’t even get money deposited in our account every day for working. It is kind of hard to come up with that kind of money everyday since we get paid weekly and pay all of our bills as soon as we get paid. I absolutely would not have an issue paying her daily if she were watching him 1-2 nights a week or for a date night. Is this normal?? This is our first baby sitter so we really don’t know what the norm is.

If I was hired as a baby sitter, I would expect to get paid following watching the child. It sounds a bit dodge to me that you’re wanting to pay weekly if I’m honest, unless she’s fully employed by you with a contract and all that.
I don’t know, I just couldn’t imagine baby sitting someone else’s child and not receiving any money for the next 4 days following.
I used to babysit quite frequently and that had always been the norm x

Doesn’t feel like she’s committed to this long term and wants to be able to quit or not show up without being owed anything

I was a FT sitter and i got paid daily by some ppl and bi weekly by others

Maybe she doesn’t think it’s a permanent job. In my area families hire a lot of nannies. They are paid weekly and even through a service that will take out taxes, do direct deposit, etc.

I would expect to pay a sitter after each night. A nanny I would expect to pay weekly. This doesn’t seem odd to me or a red flag.

I pay my babysitter daily. Me and my husband get paid weekly. We have always done this with every babysitter we've ever had. In my opinion its pretty normal to ask for daily payment.

I am a nanny and get paid each Friday. If I was a babysitter I would expect to get paid after each sit.

I've seen so many horror stories of "entitled parents" online refusing to pay baby sitters for stupid reasons so maybe sitter is just trying to protect themselves from that?

When I was a babysitter I got paid daily as it was evenings. But as a nanny I’ve got paid weekly and or bi weekly

That's normal. And yeah I bet you she's been burned at least once by a parent using her service for a week then refusing to pay.

I pay our babysitter daily, I’d rather get it out of the way (but she would be ok with weekly too).
