My son is 2 and in that time my MIL has never bought anything for him to keep at their house. Only 2 little trucks that we deliberately left there. Not even a plate/cup for him to use there. Her granddaughter has a whole bedroom decorated in girly colours, countless toys that MIL has bought, loads of cutlery etc with frozen, Minnie mouse etc on it. Why would she not buy anything for my son? It feels awkward to take a cup over whenever we go visit 🤔 granted she used to babysit for the granddaughter and my son only goes for visits with us. But is that not still a bit weird?

That’s not weird there’s no reason for him to have have his own stuff there if he isn’t staying there. My dad doesn’t have anything for my son at his.. because he has a five year old daughter so there’s always kids stuff at the house. It doesn’t matter that it’s pink cups and stuff, he can still use them. Buying new ones for no reason seems silly
yeah that's fair enough I guess. I'm maybe over reacting. Its just everything is about the granddaughter it feels, like planning a family weekend away somewhere with a pool because that's what she likes to do, no mention of yeah my son likes swimming as well. Buying new coat for her for winter, nothing mentioned for him etc. When he was a baby they had her old high chair in the loft but nobody could be arsed to bring it down for him. So he would just eat on the couch or wherever

What’s the age difference? and yeah the high chair thing would of annoyed me too tbh
There's 6 years between them

Favouritism of grandchildren is so common now it’s really sad. The plates and stuff wouldn’t bother me but I’d take toys round there and leave them for his age range if your going there often to save you carting stuff to and from there house for him to play with whist there. X
I know it's not really about a plate or cup as such, I know that sounds a bit petty, I think its just the not bothering to get any wee things for him that are just for him x
Also I should have said - I meant taking a cup round because he still needs a toddler/miracle cup type and the granddaughters ones are older
