Has anyone grown up saying they could never be a SAHM and then it all changed when you had your baby? My LO is 2 months and I started joking with my husband about becoming a SAHM. I’m starting to think those jokes are how I actually feel even though I feel like I never could. Idk I just never saw myself in that position and I’m even going to school to further my career.
How did you know what you were truly supposed to do?
And of course that means one less income, what have you done to make that adjustment? (Spouse is E5 in military and I get a little bit for disability for prior service but only enough for one of two car payments)

My husband and I agreed for me to be a SAHM when my LO was born 2yrs ago. It’s hard because I sometimes want to go back to work but I don’t like leaving my LO for more than a few hours. I just had my second one. I’m also in school to get my bachelor’s and want to start work again when they are both in school. Or we move by my family. Husband is also in military. One income is a struggle. 😬

I always said I would never be a stay at home mom. I wanted a career outside the home. But as we started to look at the cost of childcare and my husband travels for work and has to leave when he gets a call so his work is so unpredictable we made the choice as a family that I would try the whole stay at home mom thing and now I’m absolutely loving it. Yes there’s sometimes it’s difficult because I have to rely on my husband for money but he’s never made me feel like it’s just his money. We do alot of budgeting and don’t go out as much as we once did!
that’s part of the reason why we have been talking about it -we are in SoCal and 3 days a week day care is $1200 where we are at. The military will help pay for part of it, but we applied for assistance in July and have not received any word (yes we have reached out) so I’m thinking this is the universe’s way of telling me I’m meant to be at home with my LO

I would say give it a try! I’ve had so many family members say if you can afford to be home with the LO do it because you will miss out on so much time with them at daycare!
that’s one of my biggest set backs is the one income. We are living very comfortably right now, my income + disability is basically enough for the bills and he pays rent plus whatever we want so that’s a huge adjustment

It’s hard. I do Instacart or DoorDash to try to help and have some cash flow through. Maybe try to reduce hours at work for a little while!?
right now we are waiting for military assistance to respond to us for helping with daycare costs.

I was a SAHM with my first for the first couple of months but I got so tired of being at home all the time so I went back to work but I work for my mom and I am super fortunate that I am able to work for her because I take my son and daughter to work with me and they have a play area so I get to take care of them and be able to work

If you become a stay at home mom it’s not forever, I want to stay at home with my kids until they are in school then go back to work. It’s really a short time in the grand scheme of my life, I didn’t want to miss anything 🤍
I wish 🥲 we are a military fam so we are not near our family

The advice I got was just to try it, whatever “it” is and you can always change your mind. For me, I really want to be a SAHM but it would be really hard financially, so I’m going to go back to work and going to see how I feel. I’m working on an “exit strategy” though lol so if after 2-3 months I’m hating being away from my baby I can switch

I said growing up I never wanted to be a sahm but I’m almost two months in and often debate with myself about actually trying to go back to work and just enjoying her as much as possible. I completely understand your financial situation my husband is an e-6 with a house and car payment and it’s a tight budget but it’s doable
