Pain in outer hip when sleeping

Hi all, I’m 19 weeks and for the last few weeks I’ve really been struggling with aches when I sleep. I’m sleeping on my side, usually with one leg up on a pillow or a pillow between my legs. By the early hours I always wake up with a horrible ache in my outer hip - the bony bit between my hip and thigh that is in contact with the bed when laying on my side. The weird thing is that it happens on both sides - so the one that’s on top as well as the one that’s touching the bed. I also get aches in my glutes which feels very strange! I’m using a pregnancy pillow which does help with my general comfort but not this specifically. I’ve always been a side sleeper and never had issues like this pre-pregnancy. Just wondering if anyone else has had this, and if you’ve found anything that helps?? My bump isn’t that big yet so I assume this will only get worse 🫣

Im in the same boat, I’m so sore by the time i wake up in the morning😭 sometimes i feel like my pregnancy pillow makes it worse 😫

I sit up in bed most nights now, had this same problem and now I just use a thick pillow under my pregnancy pillow to prop myself up and sleep pretty much sitting up, it's a bit uncomfortable for my neck, but my hips don't hurt nearly as much, also helped my back as I was having a lot of rib pains.

I’ve really noticed this as well in the last week, starts off ok but then I wake with this pain in my hips. I’m getting a new pregnancy pillow which I hope might help but otherwise not sure what to try. As you say it’s only likely to get worse as we get bigger 😬

It sounds like pelvic girdle pain, or pgp. Get it checked out because if so, it is common but not normal. It will get worse- I've beeb signed off work for 4 weeks with it as my mobility has been affected x

I get this too and often chop and change to each side throughout then night. I then end up sleeping upright as it doesn’t ache nearly as much. I also think Iv got slight sciatica. Try stretching out the hips before bed and when you wake up and opt for putting a small pillow by the bump and avoid pillow between legs - see if that helps!! :)

I have had this it’s super horrible I agree I think go to the doctor I’m planning on ringing next week! I’m super worried because last night I had to sleep not up right but raised on my back and now I’m anxious I was just so tired I didn’t think

Thanks everyone for your help! Last night before bed I did about 10 minutes of yoga stretching to open up my hips and stretch out my glutes, and after sleeping without a pillow between my legs I’ve woken up completely pain free! So relieved, definitely going to keep up the yoga

I get this some mornings at 21 weeks it’s horrible isn’t it!😅🙈

Rather than a pillow better my legs I put one under my bump and that’s much more comfortable
