Please help I don’t know what to do. LB 9MO always been an amazing sleeper. 7-7 no night feed since about 8 weeks old.
This week he’s been going to be as normal about 7, waking up an hour later inconsolable. He actively throws his dummy out his mouth, pushes away bottles, fights out of cuddles etc. he literally does everything to stop himself going to sleep.
He won’t stop screaming until I take him downstairs and he starts playing as if it’s 2pm!! Happy as anything.
He then won’t settle till about 11pm / 12am. But it’s still a fight of lots of rocking etc, when again I normally just put him in and he takes himself to sleep!
I don’t know what to do I’m exhausted, he’s still waking up about 7am, and it’s just not like him. I hate I don’t know what’s wrong with him or how to help. Is this a regression? He’s never had one before so I don’t know!! When will it end!?

I think they always say the first thing to check is whether their now having too much daytime sleep?

Yes. This is DEFINITELY a sleep regression from everything I have read on these forums for the last three weeks! It’s seriously draining. It’s been 3 weeks for us and we are only JUST seeing a change. I promise that it will end though! Xx
I believe it’s 14-16 hours in a 24 hour period this age. He does 12 at night and 3 in the day so bang on😭
oh blimey! Well I guess I have a slight answer at least! It’s just the weirdest thing?? Once I get him back down at 11/12 that’s it I don’t see him till 7am! It’s just that first bit!

I’ve read they also start to suffer a bit more with separation anxiety. I’ve resolved to just trying to be as consistent as humanly possible but giving myself a break if I break it because it feels relentless! X
yeah he point blank will not settle with his dad. Which makes it even harder 😞. They know how to make us feel bad don’t they!!

It's very likely, they're commonly 4 months (most common), 6, 8, 10, 12, 18, 24 months
So anywhere a couple weeks before and after too. You're right with optimum sleep times too. I'll attach a chart here though for everyone. It's best looking at sleep in a 24 hour period usually but obviously bigger chunks and time should be at night here.
All I can say is do whatever it takes to get you both through it and sleeping as much as you can. I'd often say push bed time later so it hopefully means a decent wake up for parent's but saw you said he's not going down till 12 and waking at 7 still so that doesn't help. (I struggle most as can never sleep before 2am lately and she's awake at 8am and I'm a 8 hour or nothing sleep needs person aha 🥴🙈)
There's a lot of development and separation anxiety at this age too and pair that with the regression that's common when these things happen, it's just all shit 🤣.
I saw you said he likes being rocked now, try pats, shushing, white noise, lullabies etc as well,

In a similar boat over here too! It must be a sleep progression. I’ve been managing by having naps in the day myself if possible. Hope it passes soon but you’ve got some good advice above xxx
this is sooo helpful. THANK YOU!!!!
Yeah he has the sound of the hairdryer playing all night, and has done since about 3 weeks old 😂 so we’re keeping that. My partners desperate to get him self soothing again, but I think we need to battle through this first!
I’m an 8 hour sleeper too and this is ROUGH. I work 5am-9am so some nights I’m having about 4 hours sleep 😭
hope it passes for you too! Xx

Omg nooo that must be so hard, bless you I'm sorry! 😫 can partner take an early evening shift for you to get down a bit earlier? May help a little and maybe not every night but some, if babe is happy too ofc aha.
That's alright! Hahaha bless him that's so cute 😭. Tbf you're really lucky he actually did before! It's not often a set skill until 2+! So you may find it's something that doesn't always stick around and can come and go unfortunately 😬 but once yoy find something that works and once he has his sleepy cues you just whip out and works in a few minutes, it won't be so bad 💜
Another tip I found useful was if they don't fall asleep within 15 minutes if trying, go back to whatever you were all doing and try again in a bit and hopefully it'll work the next time (some do half hour some wait for more sleepy cues) xx
