hey girlies! is anyone having a delayed speech with their child too? my daughter is gonna be two next week and she can only say a few words so her therapist’s are suggesting she get seen by a development peds doctor. that kind of makes me nervous but I also think she’s about to be two and i’ve been told a lot more speech comes after that age. I just feel like there’s still time for her to form her words but it’s shoved down my throat that she should be seen by a development pediatrician and sometimes it bothers me I guess because I already have her in therapy for it. I don’t know I still am going through all the steps to get her seen by that doctor just so they can examine her and let me know if there is anything to be concerned about. I could use some advice from people who maybe going through the same thing.

My son was just seen today (2nd birthday) and I brought up how he talks but not like what “he’s supposed to” and his doctor didn’t seem too worried. She said by 2.5 no improvement then she’d refer him to a therapist. She also said that boys are a little more behind then girls so I’m not fully sure!

My son just turned two yesterday, and he is barely saying a few words. We are working with this program right now, and we decided that if he isn't talking by two and a half, we will probably try speech therapy.

I am not in this group but this came up on my feed and I have had this experience with my now 3 year old. My daughter only knew a few words before she turned two and as soon as she turned two she started saying more words every day. Her pediatrician wasn’t concerned because they said some kids just don’t really start talking until after 2 and she understood everything that people said to her.

that’s what our doctor suggested today as well. Give it till two and a half and if there’s no improvement then he’d start speech therapy

thank you guys so much it honestly made me feel so much better reading your comments knowing you are or went through the same thing. I hope all of you and your families are doing great!!

I had this with my daughter when she was two she just said like five words and she was on a waiting list to see a speech therapist. As soon as she turned 2 and a half all of a sudden she just started talking more and more and more and now she won’t shut up 😂🥰 It’s easy to say don’t worry but honestly don’t worry too much at this age. I did say if she turns three and is the same then she’s definitely got a speech delay but personally I don’t believe a two year old that isn’t talking yet should be classed as having speech delay the amount of moms I’ve met with kids that were in the same boat as my daughter was crazy! It’s NORMAL ❤️❤️❤️

I feel like speech delay is kind of a scam to make money from therapy because I haven't met a mother these days that isn't worried about it.

If you are in the us, look into Early Intervention. It is a free service that you do not necessarily need a referral for. My son was quite delayed and I only did we get free help, we actually ended up getting free preschool once he was three. It made such a huge difference because our son was really struggling with frustration due to the inability to communicate. He's much happier now.

My kid is two in three weeks and he has like 5 spoken words (but like 50 in sign language). I genuinely feel like speech therapy is very trendy in the US right now because everyone is talking about it, but when I talk to my Canadian family they all say “why would he be talking, he’s only two.” They think speech therapy at this age is nuts. I understand in certain situations it’s necessary, but for me I’m happy to wait on my kid because he obviously has the comprehension.

Oh and it may have been a coincidence but when I introduced miss Rachel on YouTube that's when she started trying to talk more x
