Sweep on due date

It is my due date tomorrow 09/10 and my midwife has said she is going to be coming to me for a home visit, does anyone know if I can ask for a sweep if they will give me one? Or is it only if your overdue?

I'm not sure but it's worth asking anyway the worst she can say is no xx

Definitely worth asking. I was going to have one on my due date but they didn't have any appointments so ended up booking the day after only for that reason x

They can offer from 39 weeks I think so worth asking

I've been offered one for my appointment which is the day for my due date, I think it differs with each area

I've got one booked for the day after my due date, but it's at the hospital as my midwife said sometimes they need assistance (I'm guessing if they cause a bleed or something) so not sure if they can do it at home. But that could just be the rules where I live so it's worth asking!

Thanks ladies I will definitely ask the midwife tomorrow I am getting so impatient now I just want to meet my baby 🄰

I’m due tomorrow also & I have one booked in on Wednesday xx

I've never known anyone to have a sweep at home but no harm in asking x

I had one on my due date 😊

I’m due Thursday and had 2 sweeps already. One at 38 week one at 39 week.
Got another booked Thursday but my consultant wants me to try get another tomorrow so I can have 4 attempts at it before my due date to avoid induction x

Avatar

sweeps are a form of induction x

Avatar

I wouldn’t agree with that tbh, it’s a form of encouragement but I wouldn’t class it as induction lol x

Update: I had my home visit today on my due date my midwife said she could offer me a sweep but she could only get one finger tip in so couldn’t offer me a full sweep.

She did what is called a stretch and massage of the cervix instead. I’m hoping this will help soften the cervix for my waters to go.

I also had my third one today, got another booked for Thursday. X

Avatar

how did you get on?

Avatar

my cervix is soft now but still posterior, she wasn’t able to bring it forward enough. Managed to stroke babies head again but not forward enough to do a full sweep. I just used an electric breast pump to see if I can produce some oxytocin to naturally induce labour and been on the birthing ball all day lol x

Avatar

it’s so frustrating isn’t it! I was so sure I’d be like 2cm or something so she could go a proper sweep but no. I won’t be offered another one now as they are booking me for an induction at 41 weeks if I don’t go naturally this week.

Haha I have been the same on my ball all day, this is all we can do. I hope we both go this week. X

Avatar

you could always ask, they’re not letting me go over 40 weeks too but I’m having sweeps 4 days apart at the moment.

I’ll be booked for next Thursday induction if he doesn’t hurry up 😭 x

thanks Katie hope baby comes for you before then. I am hoping I won’t need another one I am getting some intense cramps and backache from my stretch and massage yesterday šŸ¤žšŸ»

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way šŸ˜‚ arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
