Yes, they’re safe. As long as safe sleep advice is followed, but that applies to wherever baby sleeps. But co sleeping IS safe when it’s done properly, the NHS no longer advise against cosleeping.
Having baby in your room decreases the chance of SIDS, which is why it’s advised to have baby close by.
where can i find the safe sleep advice?

https://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/# There’s lots of different guides here, from room temperature, to how to position baby in a cot, to bed sharing etc.

I think Co-sleeping being dangerous is more if they are actually in your bed, as there is a risk of rolling onto them but a next to me crib is more separate

I would definitely say to read up on how to make your bed a safe sleep space for baby, even if you don’t intend to co sleep.
Co sleeping is dangerous when it’s not done properly or under certain circumstances, but it’s done safely by millions of mums all over the world. The reason the NHS changed their advice is because sometimes although you may not have any intention to bed share at first, you may find yourself so desperate for sleep that you will (not all mummy’s get a baby that is happy to lay in any type of cot!) or when the exhaustion sets in and you can end up doing it without setting out to, and just fall asleep accidentally with baby in your bed, on the sofa or in a chair etc, and that’s when it’s dangerous.
If you’re on Insta, Cosleepy is fab for bedsharing advice.
