Heating baby bottles in microwave

Hi, I heat up my baby's bottle (just water) in the microwave to a temp i definitely know won't burn him then add the formula and feed it to him. I have had family members tell me off for doing that. I just want to know what are peoples thoughts on heating up bottles in the microwave.

What is the problem with that?

i don't know. It's the quickest and easiest way to heat up a bottle. But the comments from family have me worried I'm doing something really dangerous. I only warm it up so it is luke warm, so burns are not an issue. Is there some other danger? I don't want to put my baby at risk.

Idk I just assumed that’s what you do. I said I was going to get a bottle warmer and everyone told me that was stupid because I can just use the microwave. If it’s too hot you just wait. Idk sounds like overreacting

I purchased a bottle warmer just to hate it lol. So I would heat a bowl of water then take the mixed formula bottle & sit it in the bowl & swirl until right. They also don't need warm bottles after 3mo old. It's all preference at that point. Not cold either, room temp lol. I got picked on for doing the bowl thing by family "Where's your bottle warmer?" I'm like 👀 I'm her mother, thank you" 🤣 I would never put a baby bottle in the microwave. If that's what they are saying lol

So here in the US it is said not to use a microwave to heat up bottles because the water could feel cool at the top of the bottle or lukewarm and be scorched at the bottom. So more or less the bottles can get hot spots and burn baby's mouth. But I know different countries have different guidelines 🤷

I do the same , and give it a good shake to make sure no hot spots. Had no issues so far.

It literally takes less than 15 seconds when I do mine so no way it will get hot enough to burn.

Yes! Exactly 😀

I sometimes use the microwave to heat up a pre made bottle as long as it's over 120 ml and heating only for 10-15 seconds. It just takes the coldness off. I shake it well so that there are no hot spots.

I didn't know you can heat premade formula.

Avatar

i bought one too but it takes so long to heat up and doesn't off automatically so if you forget it stays on heating which worries me safety wise.

I think the rule not to microwave has something to do with the microwave and the plastic. Microwaves are generally not the best in terms of emitting radiation and such.

I use a bowl of boiling water and swirl my bottle in that to warm it up.

I use powdered formula, so I boil water in the morning and then cool it to the temp I want. Then I keep it in a thermos and use that to make my bottles so that it's always the perfect warm temp.

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!

4 month sleep regression

Does anyone else feel like they’re back in the newborn trenches through the 4 month sleep regression ?? 😭😭 my boy turned 4 months yesterday and the past 3 nights he’s woken up every 20-40 minutes. He does manage to get back off to sleep after I give him his dummy. It’s so strange though because his daytime naps don’t seem to be affected? He has 2 x long naps a day (around 2 hours) and a couple 30-40 minutes here and there and seems fine during them, it’s just his night time sleep! I read it can last for 6 weeks, I pray it doesn’t because I am shattered 🤣🤣

Is this a normal poo?

Apologies for picture included. 1 year old has had a funny tummy since Friday not watery diarrhoea but very explosive and paste like poo and he’s not being eating as much but been drinking his milk and water normally! Today we had this poo though and it seemed a very chalk like consistency and very pale. Just asking for thoughts and advice really. He did also have lots of cream on his bum.
